Sorry for butting in, but I just wanted to share a fatwallet thread that I relied on last time I applied for a CC. It helped me a lot so maybe it can be of some help to you/others too: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/finance/711457/

  • yes, DH keeps up w/that fatwallet thread too :)

the gas card we use is the Citi Driver's Edge card for 6% CB....you have to use the money towards car stuff...i.e. oil changes, new tires, maintenance, etc but since we don't spend that much on gas (DH has a short commute and my car is fairly fuel efficient) we never end up having more CB than we can spend

the best CB card we have right now is 2% back on our Visa Charles Schwab

discover will have different promos during various months of the year, i.e. 5% back on gas, dining out, hotels etc so that might be of interest to you

we don't really bother with any cards that have annual fees so i can't tell you about those

and, i never realized how much CB we get from sites like fatwallet, ebates, and bing! i was logged into our bing account the other day and over the last 2-3 years we've received over $1400 in bing CB! so every little bit adds up :)

oh and we don't use it regularly but we also have a Citi AAdvantage card b/c when we signed up we got free 25K miles, so basically a free ticket! :) although we could get miles by using that card, we find it easier/more convenient to get CB instead of miles on things

  • super helpful - that thread is great too.  thank you both!
