edit: I now see, without 3G. Why the fukc would you need phone-like capabilities on this thing? In case you're in the middle of the desert and need a new book?

It sounds to me like these changes are simply addressing competitor (Nook) feature/options.

That's why! So you can buy a book anywhere. I get my books through "other means" so I rarely use the 3G. And I have WiFi at home and at work, so I totally would've bought this one had it been out last fall.

I love that my Kindle has 3G. I buy books on public transport and camping a lot and wifi wouldn't be enough. Also I wonder how the wifi only would work with things like hotel wifi where you have to fill out a form or agree to the terms & conditions. FOr $50 I would still get the 3G version.
Mr. Mod really wants to get me the new one in graphite. I don't need it and am not sure I want it, but if he got it for me I could give the one I have to a girlfriend who I know really wants one, has been un/way under employed for a long time, and is just generally having a rough go. That would be nice.

I have been meaning to write you back bbq. Since you have like one book and if you guys trust each other the easiest way to share is register your kindle to her amazon account and leave it on there. That being said, you can register to her account, then unregisger and reregister to yours.
