I'm sure you all have heard me talk about my stomach issues before. Here is a little continuation on the saga. To put it all in a nutshell, I have never felt good. Apparently as a baby I was extremely cranky and always had rashes - we definitely should have known something was up. When I was in grade school I came home every day with a headache, so my parents finally had me tested for allergies and they told me I was allergic to corn and tomatoes. Instantly changed my diet and have been avoiding products containing corn (and any derrivatives) and tomatoes for 13 years. A few years later I was diagnosed as lactose intolerant. Well, 2 years ago after still not ever feeling healthy, I went to a nutritionist, who had me quit eating gluten. I felt better but was still having stomach problems. Not so bad that I couldn't live with them, so I always just assumed that this was the best it was going to get. My mom convinced me to go to a new doctor here in Athens while she was down this summer and get re-tested for food allergies since the tests have come a long way in 15 years. I got my results back yesterday, and not only am I NOT allergic to corn or tomatoes (although I am still gluten intolerant - it's not celiac at least), but I have a severe allergy to eggs and chicken. Apparently this is what has been making my stomach so upset my entire life. I eat 2 eggs for breakfast EVERY morning. Even cross contamination is bad for me - which means my husband also has to give up chicken and eggs. I go back to the doc's on Monday for nutrition counseling, and I'm trying very hard to look on the bright side, that I can eat stuff that I haven't for so many years, but I can't help but be severely bummed./whine.
Re: Pity party for one?
i'm sorry, that totally is sucky
on the bright side (is there one?) maybe the ill feelings will dissipate??
sorry you're so frustrated :-/
at least now you know what has been making you sick!
Oh my goodness, but you finally know what's wrong! That's got to be a relief, even if it means giving up some foods you like.
I get what it's like to feel crappy every day though. I'm always not feeling well, similar to what you described but different, and the doctors seem to be in cahoots that I'm just a hypochondriac, so I've hit a dead end.

This is me, too. Now I'm thinking I should be tested for allergies. I've never been tested before for anything.

It's a really easy test, you just have to go to a doctor who will do it. I had tons of docs blow me off or just tell me I had IBS and gave me a prescrip for prevacid (which made it worse, btw). Your best bet is to try an osteopathic physician, naturopathic doctor, or sometimes even chiropractors (here is the website of the doc that I am going to http://www.drbeckylaird.com/). As far as the test goes, they took 4 vials of blood, sent it to a lab. the end.
I'm a firm believer that no one should go through life feeling crappy every day. lol.
never heard of them testing for allergies like that, i have lots of allergies and have had the scratch test doen 3 times....it sucks....
Can you get immunized for the chicken and egg thing? i had allergy immunization done, its a long process but once its done, my allergies for the things i had immunized were gone.
I wish I was science-y, so I could figure stuff like that out. Does anyone in your family have food allergies? Or is this something they think you just randomly developed?

haha I joked with H that I should switch careers and study the immune system lol.
And yes, almost my entire family has problems with foods, that's why I was tested when I was so young. It's gotten to the point that we almost can't have family dinners on my mom's side because so many people can't eat so many things
Wow! That's so sad
I am so intrigued by the immune system and the seemingly random things it does. I would guess family history would dictate your case as genetic, right? My GF friend said her doctors told her gluten intolerance can be caused by trauma to the body early in life...? She had open heart surgery as a baby, and they're thinking that's what caused it. It's so crazy to me!

That sucks to be allergic for things you have eaten for so long but at least you now know what's wrong! I hope you start feeling better b/c nobody should have to go through every day feeling like that!
I have some great tomato and corn recipes for you though if you want them
