  • I haven't even looked.  But was this bill on an actual reading or an estimate?  If it was an estimate, chances are they over-estimated.  If it was the actual, you may want to consider the economy plan.  They spread out your payments evenly over the whole year so that your payments are fairly consistent.  I think that's what we do.
  • First time we had an actual bill in months (because we are NEVER home when they come) and it was $450!!!!  Usually in the summer it's around $300, in the winter about $180.

Granted, we have been running at least one AC non-stop, but still....

  • 300 also, i assume its cause of the airco
  • Hmm, why is everyone's bill so high? I guess because everyone has washing machine? I think $300 is exorbitant, regardless.

Yeah, I don't get how your bill is so low! Do you light your house by candlelight? :-)

Even when we lived in a one bedroom apt, with no washer/dryer, our ConEd bill was around $80 a month!

LOL! When we rented, our elec bill never went above $50 but we were shocked ourselves that going from renting to owning would be so low. The month before the bil was like $48. But I think it's just because we do not have AC in the entire house - just our bedroom. I am also very conscientous about putting lights out, pulling plugs from the wall when I leave a room etc...DH not so much.

Hmm, I didn't think you could do this with the electric bill as well. I just did this for my gas bill and will be paying $76 per month till next year August. Woot!

Yes, 1300 sf is much more costly to power than my 750 sf apt.  Genius might be a smidge much, but I'd like to think that I'm good for a few good suggestions every now and then.

see that seems like an exorbitant gas bill to me!  ours was $34 this month, and that was the actual.  and we have a gas stove, gas washer, gas dryer, and gas powered hot water heater, too!

ETA:  don't know if the washer is gas powered, but the dryer definitely is.  i guess the difference is that karllen, you prolly have gas heat in your home, yes?

  • We have been on ConEd Level Payment Plan for a few years now. They give you a set amount to pay every month. This really helps in budgeting, especially with the heavy air conditioner use in the summer months. We pay $78 monthly. Works out well for us.

Eureka! LOL We solved the low electricity bill - high gas bill dilemma. Yes, I do have gas heat in my home. The lowest gas bill I paid was last month's $65. Mid winter I paid almost $400 (we were new to this and had the heat set to like 72'F LOL We got smart and put it down to 65'F very quickly and got some reprieve from the high bills.

  • Chiming in from over at money matters...

I live in Manhattan, this month's bill was $356 (!).  I was floored when I opened that bill.  We live in an 800 sqf 2 bedroom.

I'm a bit reassured to see that others have bills as high.
