how do you pronounce this word?
Ben and I say it one way, my sister and stepmom say it another, and I overheard someone else saying it a third way.

Re: how do you pronounce this word?
If I say it on its own, as in "Would you like a caramel?", I say care-uh-mel. If it's combined with something else like "caramel apple" sometimes I say car-mel. IDK why, maybe I'm stingy with syllables.
I picked the last option, the secret pronounciation.
I pronounce it Ca-rah-mel. The 'Ca' is said like you would say 'Cat'.
I heard an American pronounce my daughter's name 'Sa-Mare-Ah' a few days ago. We pronounce it 'Sah-Ma-Rah, with the first syllable rhyming with 'Some'.
i wondered about this for myself for a while too! my coworkers must have wondered why i was muttering various caramel-related phrases to myself
but i decided
i always say care-uh-mel.
interesting, that's definitely one i hadn't heard of either! I had to try really hard to sound it out, hehe.
i've always said samara's name (in my head) the "correct" way, but the American "sa-mare-ah" reminds me of when i was in London and a Londoner tried to pronounce my name the "American" way - it sounded nasally and awful - i told her she could stick with "son-dra"!
(...it's san-dra - san as in sand. ...like it looks
)
THIS EXACTLY!!
Me too!!
My Planning Bio
I voted car-uh-mel, but now this is actually how I say it too! I think the only exception is that I say car-mel apple. But with everything else -- ca-rah-mel frappuccino, piece of ca-rah-mel, ca-rah-mel candy, etc.
I'm changing my vote to the secret one too
I HAVE heard people pronounce your name 'Son-dra' and I have NO idea where they get the 'Son' from lol. There is no 'o' in Sandra *scratches head*.
However, I can't talk...Australians are renowned for bastardizing the English language lol.
