So the plan was to take off 3-4 months maternity leave. It hasn't been decided yet for certain. We were going to go to England in Jan, which is why I wanted off till Feb, but right now we're thinking we're going to just wait until next September.
Anyway, much as CA is a stinking expensive state for everything under the sun... living expenses, taxes, etc., I am grateful that there is a good disability/maternity leave benefit which will give me 55% of my pay for 12 weeks. I'm paying a hefty amount into it, so why not use it? Well, I just called the EDD and it turns out that I can still work PT and receive those benefits, as long as I'm not working more than 45% of my regular hours. I totally just told my boss that I'm willing to do some work from home, maybe 10 hours a week, and even come into the office to run credit cards a couple of hours a week (as she's incapable). Am I crazy? I'm going to set some boundaries as to how much I'm willing to work, and I'm going to tell her it will be as my schedule permits because my focus will be the baby. I also don't plan to do a thing for at least the first 2 weeks after she's born.
This way perhaps she won't have to hire anyone to replace me as I think it could actually be a bad thing if they don't live up to her expectations!!!!
Re: I must be mad!
Yes you are mad. Caroline, there is no way that you are going to want to be working when you are home. And if you do decide to work, I would tell her that you shouldnt be contacted for the first 6-8 weeks that you are home. It is a big adustment having a baby and getting a routine is hard. There is no way that I would ever offer up working while on maternity leave. The first week I was home we had major breastfeeding issues and I was at the doctor every day that week and was an emotional mess. The last thing on my mind was if the office was functioning without me.
I think you should have waited to say anything to her about it until after Lucie was here, that way you can see what life as a mom with a newborn is really like. JMO
Baby #2 - D&E - 10/1/10 @ 19w2d - thanatophoric dysplasia confirmed.
Charlotte Lillian will be forever in our hearts.
Baby #3 - Little Bean - natural miscarriage - 1/17/11 @ 5w5d
I wouldn't do anything for the first month or two after Lucie is here as from I read on other boards and here it is an adjustment having a baby at home. If you do want to do some PT at home or go in I would let her know that you would not be able to do anything until at least December at the latest and then you would need to set things.
She seems to be doing good to you lately and I would hope that she would understand that you need some adjustment time and you won't know until the baby is here if you will be able to help her at all.
This, exactly. :-(
