WWYD - Vacation Time?

So I have 6 days of vacation time to take from working OT at Conference. My boss was so grateful for all the extra work I did for her surprise 25th anniversary tribute that she told me to count those hours worked so now I have 6 days.

Here's the thing, do I take them before the baby is born or save them up? Come October 1 I will get another 10 days (she added a week's vacation to the standard 5 days I'm supposed to get because she agreed that's not enough). Well, I'll be stopping work October 15 probably until February 15. The likelihood of me taking vacation days between Feb-Aug next year is low considering that it'll be the busy season again, I have 12 sick days that I can use for myself or if Lucie is sick and Arek has more flexibility with time off if the baby is sick. Then, again, next August, I'll probably wind up with about another 4 days of OT, leaving me with 14 days before Oct 1, 2011 when I'll get another 10! I can carry them over, but basically, I'm thinking, why not just take those 6 days now before the baby is born as it doesn't seem like I'll actually want them.

I'm taking 2 days for Reno and one day for my friend's wedding in Sept, but I was thinking, should I just take the entire week off that I'm going to Reno?

Anyway, what would you do? Use them or save them? Wow, that was long, sorry!

Re: WWYD - Vacation Time?

  • Use them. Especially if you don't think you will be able to take them next year and end up losing them.

I would take long weekends if you can. That way you kind of spread them out and give yourself some much needed rest towards the end of your pregnancy.

I would do this for sure, great idea Mel!  Take Mondays or Fridays off so you have 3 day weekends.

  • Take them now! Like Mel said take long weekends especially closer to time for baby.
