Never heard this before....

I'm part of a local yahoo group, so I get emails daily from other people in the group.  At the bottom of one of the emails, this woman lists her kids' names.  Mackenzie for a boy and Skylar for a girl.  Is it just me or is that not a little uncommon??

Re: Never heard this before....

  • Uncommon names or uncommon to put them there?

I've heard Mackenzie for both a boy and girl (I have a friend who's son is Mack). Skylar (I think) I've only heard since I started watching Breaking Bad.

  • I think the name Mackenzie for a boy is a little uncommon ( I have never heard it). But I have heard Skylar used for a girl name before.
  • I was referring to Mackenzie being a boy's name and Skylar being for a girl.  I had only heard it the other way around.  Skylar being unisex is a little more understandable than Mackenzie.  Mackenzie just seems a little feminine to me.

  • I've never heard Mackenzie for a boy before, but I've heard Skylar for a girl.

One of my best friends in school was named Skyler-- I think the -er ending is for boys. Since he passed I've thought about using it for a middle name for a boy.

I knew a male Skyler in HS too.

  • Yeah I think the -er is for boys and -ar is girls.  I knew a Skylar once, and I have rarely heard of MacKenzie as a boy, most often a girl.

  • I supposed MacKenzie is uncommon for a boy but the spelling also has something to do with it.  I've always had a thing for ambiguous/unisex names.

  • I've never heard of Mackenzie for a boy before.  I've only ever heard of Skylar for a girl so that one didn't seem weird to me.

  • They're both kind of unisex, tending to female. Like my name.

There is nothing in my name to indicate that I am either male or female. I think most people would lean toward a "Kelly Lynn" being a girl, but "Lynn" was my dad's middle name, too (and Lynn Swann, etc.).

Of course, I dropped the "Lynn" when I changed my name. It's unnecessary and reminds me of MIL.

  • I have only ever personally known female MacKenzie's and male Skyler's, but I do know OF a female Skylar only she spells it Schuyler.  Bizarro.

I know a male Mac.  And a few male Kenzie's.  But no MacKenzie's.

That's how the girl I knew spelled it.  I didn't think Skylar was right, and it wasn't!  It was definitely Schuyler.
