New Orleans Recs.

My Husband and I are leaving for New Orleans Saturday (last minute trip) for four days. Can anyone suggest any fun, not so expensive things to do. We would also like to find a nice romantic place to eat for one of those nights. Also any good local restaurant recs. and sightseeing.

Re: New Orleans Recs.

  • One of my favorite New Orlean's restaurant is Muriel's. It is in Jackson Square near St. Louis Cathedral.

Also, you can visit the St. Louis Cathedral (free), the Cabildo and Mardi Gras Museum (right near the cathedral). Cafe Du Monde, French Market, Aquarium, Zoo, Insectarium (which is really, really neat), Riverwalk (although it's not the same since Katrina). Then really just walking around the French Quarter.

  • Love Muriel's and it's a nice atmosphere.  Also love to eat at Maspero's on Decatur, it's mostly sandwiches and stuff but they're famous for them and they're yummy!

You can get a pass that gets you into the Imax, Aquarium, Zoo and Insectarium for a decent price.  And in the summer, you will WANT to be in the cooler places (zoo can be hot).  Also, look online because you can find discounts for the passes.

Can't beat Cafe' du Monde for a cheap breakfast of beignets and cafe au lait!  Also, Mother's has really good breakfasts too.

Frenchman Street down at the end of the quarter is the place to go if you're looking for great live music.

  • Jacquimo's on Oak Street (my personal favorite, Carriage ride through the quarter 15$, take a street car from the quarter to the uptown area to view the gorgeous mansions--$1.25, Strolling on the boardwalk at the river walk during a sunset is awesome... I also like Ruth Chris, Brennan's, NOLA restaurant and Delmonico... have fun!
  • Muriel's is so very good! Try the crawfish and goat cheese crepes. Best thing I've ever eaten. Jacquimo's is another of my faves. Try Domilise's for a great shrimp poboy.
