Every hair on my body was standing on end when my friend got to the 'punch line' and I then started to cry because her husband was okay.
Their neighbors were away, and didn't tell them that they hadn't set their alarm. My friends were not charged with watching the house, but it was just sort of a notice, "hey, we'll be gone..."
There is an alley between the two houses that has access to the street. Many months ago, friends found a homeless guy in their back garden, taking a leak. They asked him to leave, he did, nbd.
So, this night, the neighbors are away, my friends are asleep. They hear a noise. Husband goes to investigate noise, does not call the cops (this is the first time I wanted to punch my friend and then hug her really hard), goes downstairs, goes outside.
SEES guy, in alley. YELLS at him to "Get outta here!" In his sleepy state, thinks, 'ok it's just another homeless dude, taking a leak."
Guy leaves without incident.
The next morning, friends notice that the neighbor's window is open. They call the police, the neighbors have been robbed. The husband basically caught a robbery in progress, YELLED at the dude, and didn't get shot (this is where I started to cry, I am kind of a crybaby). Police are like, "you people are fuucking idiots." Friends are mortified and feel incredibly stupid. I don't know how they ever spoke to their neighbors again.
Re: I have a scary/awful break-in story.
eeek!
my h asked a coworker how he was doing yesterday. coworker replies that his parents were beaten and being held hostage in their home and the guy was on his way home to venezuela to help them. he had no idea what he could say in response.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
This is one of those, "hilarious story" posts that get no replies, because it's not hilarious, isn't it?
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
Why didn't they set their alarm? Your friends' neighbors had no one to blame but themselves.
And the guy that robbed them.
I'm just paying you back for posting my embarrassing poo story late in the sharing is caring thread and not getting any response.

Personally I thought it was crazy of the husband to go outside and investigate without calling the cops. I'd rather be embarrassed if it was an animal or something than shot because I surprised someone.
We live in the city so maybe that's a difference? But yeah, the cops were like, "dude, no." about the decision to check it out himself.
And the guy was on their property, in their backyard & alley, in a rowhouse.. does that make more sense? It wasn't just some dude bopping down the street.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
1. I'm not into poo stories, really.
2. Maybe I should have checked again but that thread should have been titled, Floyd Stories LTP Has Already Heard Several Times.

You're supposed to call the cops if you HEAR A NOISE? "Dude, no" to that. I would go look. If I was worried, I'd grab the baseball bat. I live in the county, but I think even if I lived in the city I'd check it out first. I would not be calling the cops at every clink and clank I heard.

and really weren't that funny
wait, not done
...and was a desperate attempt to pretend that she wanted to hear our stories but really she wanted to make us laugh so we would forget about her husband
Rest assured that your friend's husband was never in danger of being shot. If the burglar had a gun, he wouldn't be breaking into houses. He'd be mugging people at gunpoint. Duh.
Boxer, I didn't even see you tell your methhead yard sale story over there! Are you sure you posted it?

I guess I should accept some responsibility for it's failure since I posted so late at night. but whatever. I thought people just sat around 24 hours a day waiting for me to post funny things.

For real. Cops in cities have other things to do besides follow up on "a noise" or "strange person." Our robber came back - TWICE - we had a way to get his name and address and the cops didn't follow up. I can only imagine how hard they'd laugh if we called about a stance noise in the city. I'd laugh at me.
