Two unrelated things

1) My mom is driving me effing crazy on FB. She is commenting on every single thing I do on there with weird "Now that I'm getting divorced I'm going to act like I'm 20 again" awkward comments. GAH

2) Anyone have any good recipes for using a blueberry puree? I've got a bunch of blueberries to use up, but I don't like whole blueberries in my baking. I'm weird about texture. So I was thinking of pureeing them and making some low fat muffins or something.  Muh?

Re: Two unrelated things

  • 1) This might be a case where ignoring her awkward comments is best.

    2) I can't help you because I love whole blueberries in my baking.  MMMMM blueberries...

  • Oh yeah, the plan thus far has been, and will continue to be, ignoring. I just can't help cringing when I see the barrage of "Wicked awesome!'s, and "LOL!"s

Google is really disappointing me in the blueberry puree recipes department.

  • I did a quick search on a recipe site or two because I was curious what exactly one DOES make with blueberry puree, and yeah, pretty much nothing, so you're kind of a freak for that.

Now I want blueberry muffins in a bad way.

  • Maybe you could make some wicked awesome blueberry syrup or something.

  • Dammit. I have seen a couple of recipes where people put blueberry puree into the batter of something, along with whole fruit as well. I think I might just do a little experiment where I add blueberry puree to a basic muffin recipe, and see how that turns out.

  • I would add a little sugar to it and put it over vanilla ice cream.  Mmmmm.

My mom refuses to comment on anything I post on facebook, but then when I see her she asks me questions based on things she read on my facebook page like, "oh, how did Allan do at the dog park?", etc.  I definitely called her a creepy stalker during my morphine stupor in the hospital.

  • HA! I wish I had a morphine stupor to take advantage of.

Sparrow, blueberry syrup is a good idea. But then I don't know what I'd use it for. I don't really put syrup on stuff.  I'm difficult.

My parents do this with my video account. They watch videos and then either email me or call me instead of putting the comment on the video. I find their misunderstanding of technology endearing.

  • Maybe you can alter this recipe

Or maybe just substitute stuff for the puree like this site suggests

  • Thanks Sparrow! That's actually one of the pages I found and bookmarked to try out. :) My first experiment is in the over right now. I just found a basic healthy muffin recipe and threw in some roughly blended berries. It is looking like they are going to be an awesome purple color with blue flecks.

I've got more blueberries to use, so if this batch doesn't work out, I can try again. I eat all of the good ones raw, and then the smaller, sour ones or the mushy ones go into the cooking.

  • Welp, experiment #1 is a semi-success.

I used this low fat muffin recipe

     http://www.ehow.com/how_4684323_make-basic-lowfat-muffins.html

I wanted to replace half of the flour with whole wheat flour, but didn't have any, so instead I busted out some oats I had, blended them into oat flour in the ol magic bullet and used that for half the flour instead. And then I roughly blended about a cup of blueberries and tossed those in.

First off, I think they're pretty. :) The texture came out really nice for a low fat recipe. A little crispy on the outside, and light and moist on the inside. However, they are rather bland. I'm thinking a little more sugar, or honey, or mashed banana or something would make it a perfect breakfast muffin.  I'm just going to make some pseudo honey butter to go on them using my 50% less calorie canola oil margarine.

  • sour ones and mushy ones go straight into the garbage can at our place.  I'm an ungrateful wasteful hoar
  • Me too usually Sham, but I've got SO many blueberries in the house right now. I feel bad wasting.
