My post-wedding chub isn't going to go away by itself no matter how hard I wish for it. Plus, I finally got everything else on the right track in my life; it's time I get my health on the bandwagon, too.
So... new month, new me.
I'm challenging myself to do the 30 day shred each day for the month of August (the 31st will be my weigh-in day).
Anyone with me?
Re: August 30DS
Ohhh ohh, I will do it with you! Only I'm gonna start tomorrow and the Sept 1 will be my weigh in. The video is at my parents' so I can't start today (and I already have plans today for a giant mama homemade lunch followed by a movie with all you can eat popcorn and candy.)
ETA: Riva have you ever done 30DS? I was asking about it on the Fitness board they other day and they warned me that as a newbie I might need to take days off in between and just do cardio instead. So that is what I will probably do.

I've actually been meaning to start recently. I'll start tomorrow because we're going to the state fair today and we'll likely be gone for the whole day. >.<
britt- yup, i've done 30DS before, though i've never completed the actual 30 days. it's a pretty intense workout. good plan to alternate with cardio.
im excited that so many of you want to do this!
i agree with the check ins, but since the program is only 4 weeks, maybe we should have them more often? every 4-5 days maybe? i know that if i even start to slip a little, i end up slipping a lot.
Thanks lca! I need it.... before I did the 30DS today, I looked at it.
But no more!!! I swear!!!
OMG, I just did Day 1, level 1, 30DS. And my legs feel like rubber. I've BEEN working out, but apparently my hams have NOT gotten much of a workout.
Also, I was wondering if someone could give me a little run-down on the diet part of it. I eat a clean, healthy diet (for the most part) so I'm wondering if that will be fine along with the 30DS.
One more question, has anyone had trouble with the knees doing this workout? Or heard about anyone who does? It's got a lot of jumping type things and I usually end up with knee problems when doing a lot of jumping or running, so I'm curious as to whether or not I'll have a prob.
My knees kill me when I did this the last time! I have never had knee problems until I started my current job and sit for very long hours, and my knees started bothering me. The video definiely bothered my knees.

ditto with the knees hurting. i run pretty often and i stand 8+ hrs a day for work, so my knees might be more used to the abuse, but the workout is rough on them.
as for food, i've still lost weight while not eating super healthy. so the better your food, the faster you'll lose the lbs. plus i think you'll feel better overall.

If the workout is a lot more strength training than you've been doing, I'd recommend making sure you're eating enough protein. When I'm doing a lot of lifting I usually supplement with some protein powder in skim milk. Skip the Special K protein shakes or other products -- those have more sugar than protein -- and find something with no sugar. Doesn't taste as good, but putting it in milk instead of water helps a lot. I notice I don't get as headachy after a workout if I make sure I'm taking in enough protein.
And make sure you're not restricting your caloric intake too much. If you're doing a lot of working out, your body will need fuel -- just make it healthy fuel. It always kills me when I hear about people doing crazy workouts then eating a cup of fruit for dinner. Not healthy!
I think Jillian Michaels has a website where she's probably got lots of advice about diet and how to best fuel your body when doing her workouts. I also really like Steven Pratt's book on SuperFoods -- it's not written for weight loss, but it explains really well how certain foods affect your body and why it's good to eat them. I guess he actually does have a book out that's similar written for weight loss that might be interesting too.
Also, please take what I say with a grain of salt, since I'm in no way a dietitian or trainer or anything. Just stuff I've read from reputable sources and stuff that helps me.
