CLT girls: best place for buying a DSLR?

I think I'm finally going to get a DSLR camera for my birthday this year (yay!) but I wasn't sure where the best place to buy one was?  I was thinking Best Buy, but maybe there is a really good camera store in the area that might be better (for customer service for example), but I'm also looking for the best price.  I haven't decided between a Nikon or a Canon yet so any advice on that would be helpful too.

 Thanks!!

Re: CLT girls: best place for buying a DSLR?

  • A few months ago I bought my Canon from Biggs Camera on S. Kings Drive. They were really knowledgeable a/b cameras since that's all they sell (I feel like it's luck of the draw whether you get a good sales rep @ Best Buy) & their price was the same as BB.

  • Biggs is awesome! I rent lots of gear there. Also- check out Adorama.com I've bought lots there (including used gear) - their prices are always great and their customer service is awesome!
  • ..... I also don't have much advice on Canon vs. Nikon.... I am Nikon myself, but you can't go wrong with either. My advice is to go and hold both- see how they fit your hands. Also- if you are drawn to prime lenses Canon has a wider selection and a lower price point (I learned this after going Nikon).... however if you plan to use off camera flash (which you will want to) Nikon has a superior system.HTH!
