Do you and your DH spend more gift money on material items or on memory type trips? For example, for your anniversary/birthday/just because, do you give material gifts or take trips? Why?
Re: QOTW May 23rd
Christmas is the only holiday that we do material gifts for. We take mini-trips for our birthdays (Jan and Sept) and plan on travelling to Washington DC for our 1 year anniversary trip. It's just a personal preference to travel together. An example of a mini-vacation is this September we are going to Orlando, FL (about 2 hours away) and running in one of the races at Disney and spending a weekend relaxing.
This Christmas we're considering buying new living room furniture but we'll see. If not, I'm sure we'll just budget out so much money for various presents.
For birthdays we usually give a gift and dinner and a movie. Nothing major. Same thing for our anniversary. For xmas we normally go a bit bigger on the gifts. Plus DH's b-day is the day after xmas so I try and do something extra nice for him. We also try and take at least one vacation a year.
We do gifts for Xmas, but not for b-days. For b-days we do really nice dinners together at a favorite or new restaurant. And he sends me flowers at work. :-)
