Tell me about the new Crest Fresh Market/Forward Foods

Please! :)

Tonight is grocery shopping night in the amanjay household (which I get unnaturally excited about) so I'm trying to decide if it's "worth it" to make the trek from Logan County to the new Crest Fresh Market. Some friends said it was wonderful but I don't want to drive 45 minutes just to discover that it's just like the Crest which is 15 minutes away only newer.

OR has anyone been to Forward Foods (there's one in OKC and one in Norman.) One of my students brought me a cheese plate from there for my birthday, so I already love it, but wondered how pricey it is because I already spend absurd amounts on food.

Thanks!

Re: Tell me about the new Crest Fresh Market/Forward Foods

  • I do most of my grocery shopping at the new Crest. It's nice and really pretty inside, but I certainly wouldn't drive 45 minutes for it. Yesterday it was freaking PACKED (new store and food stamp day.. ugh..), and there was a ton of stuff they even ran out of. It's the same as all the other Crest stores, just bigger and newer. I would stick with the Crest you're closer to.

  • The new Crest is very, very crowded. Always. I've never been to any other Crest store, so I can't speak as to a comparison. I do really like it though!

I've only been to the Forward Foods in Norman. I go there solely for the cheese selection. The cheeses do seem expensive, but I suppose it's because they *can* charge that much. I would at least swing by Forward Foods if I were you, just so you can check it out. They give free cheese samples on request Stick out tongue

  • Skip Crest go to Forward Foods!  There is nothing cool about the new crest other than being new, and pretty.  The Forward Foods in Norman is awesome and the people who own it are awesome.  I would love to go to the one in OKC.

Where is this place exactly. Never heard of it but would like to go in there.

  • I've never been to the Forward Foods in Norman, but the one in OKC would be worth a trip for you, I think.  I've only been in once, and I didn't buy anything mainly because they didn't have any of the particular stuff I was looking for that day.  They did have some great stuff I would go back for in the future, though.

ETA: Ami, the new Forward Foods in OKC is at NW 51st and Western.  I'm not sure where the one in Norman is.

Same here.  I've never heard of it but it can't be far from our house so I'd like to check it out.

I love grocery shopping. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets excited about it! I can usually be found singing along to the store music and dancing my way down the aisle, then riding the shopping cart through the parking lot if it's on a downhill slope. Surprise

I'd never heard of Forward Food before now. I'm intrigued....I shall have to visit them sometime.

  • So, I went to the new Crest since it is near my employer. It is nice and pretty inside. I bought more than what I needed because the veggies/fruit were pretty looking. :-) I really appreciate Crest's efforts to make veggies and fruit look good. Whenever I go to walmart, I am always so surprised by how nasty the veggies look.

We go to the Crest in Edmond. I like that one. But I don't think it is worth it to drive an hour more. I've considered shopping after work.

How do you like Logan Co?

  • The Forward Foods in Norman is on Main Street. I have been to both locations and I just don't really think one can compare Forward Foods to a Crest.  For one thing, the variety at Crest is much larger than at Forward Foods and let's not get started on the prices.  If you are wanting fresh cheeses or organic detergent, Forward Foods would be a good place to stop by but I don't really see Forward Foods as a place to do grocery shopping like Crest.

I'm actually still in Edmond (just that northern part which is in Logan county), so, a little more of a hike, but so far, so good :)

Yes, that was the impression I got. I was hoping for a Trader Joe's (which has always been cheaper than regular grocery stores for the stuff we buy) or a Whole Foods (which is more expensive on some things, but has a great selection.)

At least it's a great place to buy specialty cheese and fun little snack-y items. The cheese counter alone is worth the drive.

  • Forward Foods in Norman is on Main down by the diner.  If you are heading down that way make sure that you stop at Native Roots Market they have a nice selection of locally grown food.  Also if you buy one of their reusable bags and use it instead of plastic they will make a donation to the local charity of your choosing.
