spermicide
I am thinking about using spermicide, but I want to hear from people who have used it first. My DH and I are not quite ready for little ones so we want a temporary, non-hormonal form of b/c.
Re: spermicide
When I first stopped taking the pill, I was learning how to chart and used Encare inserts with or without condoms, depending on where I was in my cycle. However, a few times the Encare ended up being really irritating--to both of us--so we have abandoned it and just put our trust in my charting and condoms.
Many people have reactions to the main spermicide ingredient (Nonoxynol 9), but not everyone, of course.
You might want to consider the effectiveness and whether or not you are comfortable with these odds. According to Planned Parenthood:
- If women always use spermicide as directed, 15 out of 100 will become pregnant each year.
- If women don't always use spermicide as directed, 29 out of 100 will become pregnant each year.
