So here's where I am now...
Like I said in my previous post, Ben preferred the decal over the canvases, and blues and greens tend to work best with the tone of paint we have on the walls. At first I was looking at blue stuff, but then I realized that I ALWAYS go with blue; the two bedrooms we've repainted are blue, the pillows in our living room are blue, and so on and so forth. So I wanted to try something different to set "our" space apart from the kids' areas and the living areas, and this is what I've come up with (clicky for larger pic):

I like using bright, energizing colors in our living areas, but for our bedroom I'm aiming for something calm and sophisticated (if anything I come up with can ever be described that way lol). I was also trying to get a range of textures (the bed is metal, the tables are wooden, the lamps are glass, etc.) but I don't know if it works or just comes across as haphazard.
The duvet cover set is described as "grass green" but the reviews all say it's a bright olive green, so I think the color in the photo is probably accurate (it's also available in French blue, a red/orange shade called spice, and black). The lamps are from Ikea (LJUS?S SALBO with the ERSERUD lampshade) - I liked these but they're over $300 each so I had to find a cheaper alternative. ![]()
Thoughts? Do the lamps and duvet cover add enough color to the room, or is it still blah? Is the foliage print on the duvet too matchy with the trees (should I go for something less obvious)? Like I said, I'm REALLY bad at decorating so please be honest, especially if you hate it lol!

At first, was not entirely sure, by the small photo, but sooo glad that you linked for a larger view. Totally love the lamps!
I think you have done great job co-ordinating. Usally everyone is there own worst critic. The colour palate you have used is very calming earth tones and the foilage in the duvet compliments the trees. I would not add anything more other than a couple of solid accent colour pillows in like a subtle gold or muted orange, or perhaps chocolote brown, to bring out the wood in the tables.
Came across this one on the hgtv site, of the same colour tones with that little pop of warm orange
Thanks ladies!
I like the idea of adding another color - I think either orange or yellow would work, although I'm leaning toward the yellow, just because I have an orange and blue theme in both our living room and the nursery. Where should I add it? Throw cushions? Stencil a pattern on the lampshades? I'm not into knick-knacks so I don't want to add extra things to the side tables.
(Btw I agree with whoever said the shades should be a bit larger - I think they need to be a bit wider, and will probably have to get them from someplace like Target instead of Ikea.)
What about adding the yellow in a few pictures on the wall? I think adding something to the walls would make a big difference and bring everything together even more. Something like this in a brown wood frame? I have no idea what your art taste is....I just love plumerias, lol.
.
I also saw a super cool fabric headboard last night in a home decorating magazine and thought of you. I should take a picture and post it....it was white and green patterned. But I love the tree decals you already picked out!
