How do you refer to your ILs?
I was watching an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" and this came up. How do you refer to your ILs? Also, how does your husband refer to your parents?
As in, do you refer to your MIL as "Mrs. Name" or "First Name" or "Mom"?
Re: How do you refer to your ILs?
I call the in-laws by their first names. DH does the same with my parents.
I find the "Mr" and "Mrs" particularly odd because it's not like I'm the 15 year old girlfriend---I'm an adult woman. I don't actually call anyone "Mr" or "Mrs"
See, I agree with this too. I guess this is more of a "southern" thing as I have many friends that still call their spouses parents "Mr. and Mrs."
First names here, too.
Sometimes H's dad is referred to in conversation as "sperm donor", but only to certain people.
My ILs are known as Mr. and Mrs. Satan. Which I guess makes DH the spawn of them? j/k
DH calls my mom "Mom" and my dad by his first name.
I only refer to DH's parents by their first names. And DH refers to mine by the same.
When we first started dating though I would call them Mr./Mrs. lastname because I wasn't sure if it was proper to call them by their first names. I guess since I was raised to know that it was not proper to refer to people older than you by their first names unless they have stated otherwise.
I use their first names in front of them but refer to them as DH's parents when talking to him.
He calls my mom "Mom" but he calls my dad by his first name. Odd...
