Interview a week ago - still no news.........

So, I went to an interview last Monday, thought it went well.  I am definitely qualified for the job and the interviewers seemed to like me.  They told me they'd get in touch with me "soon."  I know that's kind of subjective.........but is it normal for a week to go by without hearing from the people you interviewed with?  With my last job, I had the interview Wednesday and a job offer Friday, so this seems to be taking a while.

I sent a thank you note the day after the interview, to keep communication going, but didn't hear anything from that either.  Should I call or keep waiting?  I don't want to be annoying, but I'm really needing a job soon, and would like to know either way.  Thanks.

Re: Interview a week ago - still no news.........

  • They may still be interviewing candidates, or trying to get people together for feedback on candidates, or a million other things.

I'd call and ask what their timeline is looking like, then leave it alone for a while.

  • I interviewed for a position over two weeks ago and just yesterday got an email from the hiring director saying they are still in the hiring process and no decision has been made yet.

I know every time I've been on hiring committees at my current job, it takes quite some time for HR to do the background checks, paperwork, ect.

  • I interviewed on a Thurs, sent my thank you/follow-up the next week, and then they gave an offer the next Wed. The next day would have 2 weeks. They told me during the interview that they still had a couple more interviews to do and that I wouldn't hear anything until the next week or the week after. I never heard anything after my thank you either. They may have more interviews. I would probably wait a week and then call or ask when they might be making a decision. Hopefully you hear something soon, I know the waiting sucks.

  • I would give it a few more days and then send an email asking about the status of the hiring and telling them that you look forward to talking with them again.

    Good luck!!

  • LOL, sounds like I need to work on my patience.  Thanks for the advice.

The waiting process is one of the hardest things about finding a new job. It pretty much sucks. I would definitely wait a week or so, then contact them.

  • My job searching side agrees with you that you don't want to wait a week to know what's going on.  My HR side says there are sometimes a lot of people that need to approve a hire/salary/hrs, etc.  I've had t take a month from interview to job offer for a candidate.   Plus it's vacation time so somebody might be off and then a few days catching up with normal stuff until they want to take care of an open position. See where I'm going?
