I'm feeling very irritable today for no good reason. I'm really irritated with my friends. Let me preface this by saying, I truly have the best friends in the world but they're really getting on my nerves right now. First of all, we decided to go to a ski/lake area for New Year's this year. There are huge houses that people rent out. I was put in charge of doing the research. I quickly realized the houses book fast for that weekend. I sent out a mass email with different houses in different price ranges. I only got a few responses even though everyone said they're down for going. The people who make the most in the group selected the most expensive house (by far). It sleeps 22. To make even remotely reasonable, we would have to fill it. We have 6 confirmed couples. We could invite others but this group gets along great and I would prefer it just be the 12 of us. Also, there will 3 kids going who are all very well behaved and will go to bed early allowing their parents (and everyone else) to have a great time. If we invite more couples, we would have to invite everyone elses kids and we might not be so lucky. Also, we're planning to go to a concert for my birthday. I invited a bunch of people and originally it was just the girls going. I have no problem with significant others coming but originally none of them wanted to. Then some of the boys said they wanted to go. So I sent out a new email letting everyone know that some DHs were coming and I needed a new head count. Some people who originally said they were going didn't respond. How hard is it to reply, yes I'm still in or no, count me out? Finally, our very good friends (my bff has 5 sisters, we are very close with all of them and their so's) are going on a family vacation to OBX next week. They invited us to come for a long weekend and were planning a fishing trip. Typically just the boys go but DH told them I would enjoy it and both of us would go out. We discussed a half day trip at about $150/per person. We both get a text on Sunday that they've booked a full day at $330/per person. DH tells them no we won't be going. Several of them have been calling DH over the past 2 days trying to convince him. He's told them several times that he doesn't want to spend that much money plus there's NO way both of us could go and he doesn't want to fish from 5am - 5pm when we're only there for a couple of days. My feelings are a little hurt that no one seems to care that I wanted to go. This their "big" vacation for the year while ours is the cruise in November so I understand that they can go all out. I just wish someone would have talked to us about it first. There's really no point to this post, just needed to get it out. Thanks for listening. Mimosas to anyone who got through this and my lack of paragraphs. I don't know how to do it from my phone.
Re: Just need to vent
I'm sorry! My friends have done stuff like that to me too.
::big hugs::
I'm sorry they're being kinda crappy right now.
((hugs!))
The situation with the fishing trip struck a chord with me b/c something similar happened to me recently. My friends and I were planning a camping trip and were researching campgrounds. The next day I get a call that it's already booked and they included me in the price without giving me any of the details first. I didn't end up going, but seriously people, clear the plans with everyone before booking something!
That's so frustrating isn't it.
It seems as though you and I are very similar in that when we make plans (which happens a lot), we try to give as much of the details out in advance as possible. However most people around us either make spur of the moment plans or plans that cost a great deal of time and money all without consulting everyone.
In fact the blow up with DH's family a few weekends ago was about this as well.
Ugh, I feel your pain. I plan and plan and noone ever follows through. It's so tough. So I stopped planning... I was actually surprised that our wedding went off as well as it did in terms of people coming and staying and what not.
Just take a few deep breaths and remember..you are only 1 person and can only do so much.
