Those who have been to Traverse City

We are going to Frankfort, MI on Friday for one of my Bff's wedding.

We will be occupied all of Friday and Saturday. On Sunday we plan to head to TC. B has never been there and I am trying to think of things to do. I dont want to leave anything out. What are some of you favorite things to do or places to go in TC?

Re: Those who have been to Traverse City

  • It's a short drive to the Big Bear dunes from Traverse City. Don't go to the Roma Italian Restaurant in Traverse City, the food is terrible.

ETA: I meant sleeping bear dunes, I'm losing my mind

  • I second the bear dunes...it's awesome to walk up them and look at the view.

  • I'm a little late to post... but I've been to TC many times! Some fun things to do:

     - Drive out the Old Mission peninsula to the very end to see the lighthouse and some gorgeous views, make frequent stops on your way out and back at the various wineries for wine tastings.

    - Some of our fav TC wineries/wines: Black Star Farms (love Be Dazzled sparkling white wine), Chateau Grand Traverse (Late Harvest Riesling), and Chateau Chantal (I believe they all can be found on Old Mission but may have other locations as well).

     - Downtown TC: they have a great independent bookstore if you are into books, I always get popcorn at a shop while I'm there, and one of our favorite restaurants is North Peak Brewing Co.  They are a brewery and also have awesome food and service.

    -  On the property that the hospital is located is the old state hospital (asylum), it's a group of historic buildings that  have recently undergone some restoration and instead of being an asylum its now full of shops, restaurants, and other things.  They have The Underground Cheesecake store, where we have gotten some amazing desserts, along with many other good restaurants. Black Star also has a wine tasting stop here as well. It's fun just browsing some of the buildings and seeing the old pictures and such if your into that sort of thing.  Here's the website: http://www.thevillagetc.com/.

Let me know if you have any other questions and if I think of anything else I'll post it tomorrow! Have fun!

  • Thanks, EJ. Are you reffering to Munson Medical? My friend has driven me/thru around the asylum before. B is going to be so excited about the cheesecake.

I have been to TC a million times, but its always for an event or just hanging out with my friends and family...most of the time they do all the driving around and I dont pay much attention.
