My Aunt Bonnie passed away a few weeks ago, I had posted about how amazing she was. Anyhow, they are having a memorial for her the weekend of August 21st in Alexandria. I really would like to go, as she made such strides to come to our wedding.
I'm looking into flying or driving. Flying I would fly into DCA and take the train to the hotel or driving I would just obviously drive to the hotel. DH can't come with, so i'd be going by myself... driving down Saturday morning and coming back Sunday.
What's this area like??? Is it busy, congested, will i hit ALOT of traffic, a little (remember i'm from Jersey - traffic capital of the world).

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

I'm no help with your transportation question, just wanted to say I'm so very sorry to hear about your Aunt. T&Ps to you and your family.
This. DCA is practically in Alexandria - just depends what part of Alexandria you are going to be in. You can get to some parts via the metro, but others are completely un-metro accessible.
And depnding on when you are coming/going traffic is not too bad, relatively speaking, as in, you are used to at least a little traffic.
Edit: You might hit the worst traffic coming down and back up the Jersey Turnpike. That Jersey Shore Exit (I think it's Exit 7) is the WORST!
I'm sorry for your loss.
Is the memorial in the City of Alexandria or the Alexandria part of Fairfax County? If it's the city, most areas are pretty metro-accessible and a short ride from DCA so I'd probably fly.
If it's Fairfax County, you're probably going to need a car to get most places so I'd probably drive.
Traffic on the Jersey Turnpike is awful but as far as in the actual DC area, it shouldn't be too bad since you should be heading in the opposite direction of people leaving the city for the weekend.
This. I am so sorry for your loss
