Thank goodness for insurance

I had posted before that when we arrived in Chicago to move-in we were rear-ended on the interstate in stand still traffic. Of course the other driver had no insurance.

We were getting some money out of the other driver thinking it would cover some of the cost. We found out yesterday it would be about $1800 to fix my car! Luckily my deductible is $500 and my premiums won't be affected.

I called the other driver's husband today (he's been dealing with the $) and it sounded like he's still going to give me the other $200 he had promised me. If he doesn't at least it's only that out of my pocket, but I was freaking out last night that he was going to flip when I told him about me going through my insurance. He sounded relieved.

To make it a better day we can probably get the tv stand we want for less than 1/2 the price of ordering it online by ordering it from another store that has it in stock. Keeping my fingers crossed. We're going to check out the colour in store shortly.

Re: Thank goodness for insurance

  • Getting rear-ended SUCKS!!!  When I had my old Grand Am (My "Cletus") I got rear-ended at a stop light that I had been stopped at for a good 30 seconds.  This guy slammed into the back of my car.  I was 18 at the time.  So we pull over to the side of the road and the guy claims "My foot slipped off the brake".... Confused Right.... His front bumper was trashed.  Absolutely nothing wrong with my car at all.  He said that he didn't want to go through the insurance company so I kinda laughed at him and said "Alright, buddy!!"

It sucks when the other person doesn't have insurance though.  I've been through a major pain in the ass car accident when I was 16.  This guy (a really hot guy who had just graduated from my high school) t-boned me, and he didn't have insurance.  It took FOREVER to get the money from him because he wouldn't answer my dad's phone calls, etc.  It finally took my dad calling the guy's work for the guy to pay up (after he told my dad that he was harrassing him!!!)

So yay for everything working out for you!!!  And that's awesome about getting your entertainment center for 1/2 the price!

  • Insurance is a wonderful thing WOOOHOO!!!
  • my dad always tells me thats why we pay them the big bucks every month
  • Yikes Stu you've had some bad luck! This is the first time I've had to deal with this sort of thing. Luckily.
  • Yay for insurance!  I've only ever had to use mine once when someone hit my car while it was parked on the street and of course didn't leave a note or anything.
