So, last Monday we had a new person start in the same position as me. We have been in desperate need of help, so it is great. Well, despite the fact that the new girl has 10-15 years of experience, she has not been doing anything!
I know I should be more patient giving them time to transition work to her, but they started her with one case, and she has spent 7 work days reading through documents and making notes for herself. Now, in a perfect world, that would be great. However, in the meantime, I have around 40 cases (some big and some small) and I am doing everything on all of them.
Now, I know this sounds like I have a problem with her, and that isn't what I mean to happen. I really like her...my problem is really with our boss who hasn't given her more.
Am I nuts, or wouldn't it make sense for her to start getting a taste?
One great thing...she was bold enough to tell our boss that she needed better equipment (computer with a dual monitor). They've been holding out on getting me updated equipment (because I am just a "baby paralegal" and not really worth the investment) but they ordered her one and got me one too! So, I now have a fabulous dual screen to get more work done.
Sorry this got long!
Re: Super annoyed, but thankful!
Can you maybe pass her a couple of your cases but keep a close eye on her? Let her know that you are there if she has questions or needs help?
Sweet on the updated equipment coming you way though!
That does suck! Can you maybe suggest to your boss that she's ready for more? Or can you do what Darah suggested and give her some of your workload/work with her on it to help her get more familiar with the way you guys do things?
but YAY for a 2nd monitor! I love having one
