How many houses?

Hi ladies...

H & I are house hunting in Perrysburg which is pretty fun! I was just wondering how many houses you looked at before you started bidding?

Wondering bc I dont want to waste my time or jump the gun, ya know? We've looked at about 10 different ones. There are two that we LOVE and are in our price range sooo I think we'll be bidding within the next few days.

Re: How many houses?

  • If you find a house that you love then go for it. We probably looked at 20-30 properties, but didn't find one that was right for us until the very last one.

  • we looked at 35, we were going to quit, looked at our house as a joke because we were done, we told our realtor we didn't want to look anymore but she said, oh just look at this last one, so we did, we bought it

  • I think if you love it then bid on it! My FIL looked at house on a Wed. 1st house they looked at, didn't like the inside. 2nd house on Thurs. ~ they loved it and decided they wanted it that day and it was sold. 3rd house looked at on Monday and bid on it. So it all depends. You don't want it to be gone.
  • I lost count.  We did a ton of drive-bys and open houses.  I'd say this one caught our eye right away.  We probably toured at least 15 or so.

    GL bidding!

I was watching HGTV My First Place last night and this couple was trying to buy a house...It was like $240K and the seller was pitching in $10K for closing, etc.  These dummies kept countering back and forth b/c they wanted the seller to buy them a fridge and w/d.  I mean seriously, if you're going to spend that kind of $ and can't afford an appliance or two b/c you're so strapped for cash, rethink your budget!  I never saw how it ended.  Sorry to go on a tangent, but that just made no sense to me

  • We looked at (drum roll) 82! We started looking at the start of the crash and some of the houses we (set up by our realtor) would literally walk in the front door and leave.  We started our price range quite low and there was a lot of crap or overpriced crap.
  • I honestly only toured about 5 houses.  I was looking pretty casually because I had no specific deadline for buying.   My (our) house kind of fell into my lap because a family friend's mother had passed away so he was selling her home for the estate.  It just so happened to meet my needs, so I knew it was the right one. :):)

  • Thanks for all the input ladies. In all honesty, I can't stand looking at any other places... I find it annoying & confusing and just keep thinking about the two I like...

The first is in a really nice neighborhood & it's a newer home with 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. Kitchen is fab but there is no fence in the backyard, the rooms are painted yucky colors and wallpaper. There is also a laundry room on the first floor which is nice. The set up is also really nice. Could possibly have a great resale value.

The second is in a good neighborhood but not as good as the first. The house is a little older but everything is updated within the last few years. Kitchen is amazing w/ stainless steel. 4 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, a livingroom and a family room. Great backyard with a fence. Needs new carpet and new closet doors. Paint is all the colors I would choose so that is nice!

    Ahh, I'm so torn!

  • I honestly have no idea, but a lot.  We went to open houses every Sunday, and our realtor took us to a few as well (he wasn't very helpful in the process).  We were going to give up as well, but then we saw our house.  With as awful as it looked at the time, we knew right away it was our home.  There was always something with the other places we looked at that kept me from wanting to bid on it.  So I say, if you don't have any bad feelings about the house, go ahead and bid!  :)  Good luck!!

How exciting that you're finding good options!! :):)

Fences, paint, etc. can all be added/changed.  A good neighborhood and/or good layout cannot.

Which house feels more like home to you?

  • We looked at about 30 the one we fell in love w/ was one we weren't even going to look at since the pics were not all that great. You know when u know if its right for you :o). Good luck w/ the bidding!

BOTH! LOL. It is such a hard choice.... H & I have talked pros & cons but it isn't really helping us decide.

This was us!!  The pictures of this house were awful, OMG.  I remember we were getting ready to leave another house to look at this one, our final one of the day and Jeff and I talked in the car, agreed we were done.  Got out, told our realtor we didn't even want to bother with the last one, we were tired and hungry and all the houses in our range sucked.  She talked us into looking because it was right down the street.  Glad we did.

Yeah, we went on marathons, we would go see like 20 a day.  In the West Toledo area there are so many and we were not quite sure what we wanted.  And our old realtor was pretty crappy and she would take us to houses that were no where near the few things we for sure wanted.  Luckily we got referred to a great realitor and he found us our house.

  • We probably looked at 20 then bid and didn't get it, then looked at probably 10 more and found an even better house and bid on that one and got it. Good luck!
  • I would love to see the houses!!!  Post links!!

If you do not feel comfortable doing that I totally understand though.

  • We looked at about 15 houses before we bid on our current house and it was the only house we put offers in on.

I was watching that too! Dh and I were pretty much yelling at the TV, OMG what's wrong with you?! Just buy a damn fridge! They gave up on the w/d and kept pushing for the fridge and at the end finally gave up on the fridge and just bought the place. It was frustrating to watch.
