What's the sickest you've ever been?

My 101
Depends on how we define sick. I had chicken pox when I was seven and I can vividly remember how horrible it was.
In 2005 I had a tonsillectomy and hemorrhaged a week later requiring emergency surgery. Sitting in the emergency dept. with a suction tube in my throat while they prepped the OR for surgery was both miserable and scary.

~All AL'ers welcome~
I had mono in college in the middle of my junior year. I was very sick in the beginning of December but it wasn't diagnosed right away. I missed my winter finals right before Christmas and thankfully my teachers were good enough to let me take them on a different schedule. I continued to be very sick that whole month. My white blood cell count was through the roof, I had to have a CT scan, and there was a question of leukemia. It was horrible. I didn't even have the strength to get out of bed to go to the bathroom. I was sick for the full winter break and had to drop a course during that second semester. It took a long time to feel better and I had to take a summer course that year to stay on track.
Before mono, I always thought it was a joke when people who had it said it completely knocked them down. Now I understand why. It took me a good year before I finally felt 100% again.
I've really never been seriously ill. I remember having the flu a couple of times and lots of colds and such but I've never been hospitalized for anything or haven't had to miss work or school because I was actually sick since maybe middle school.
Keb -- did you actually get TSS from tampons?

Yup. This is kind of TMI, but I apparently took it out too early and some fibers were left behind that allowed the bacteria to grow. Most people get it from leaving them in too long, I was the opposite.
Huh... it was kind of a TMI question - I just haven't ever heard of anyone getting it - I always thought it was one of those things that sure they put it on the box but it was no big deal.

It's apparently really rare, like only 20 cases of it a year. No one in the ER had ever seen in before so I had all these interns looks at me. I was totally out of it and didn't notice how totally hot my doctor was or that they put a catheter in me. Which was not fun, in case you were wondering. For months after the fact, one of my friends would highlight the tampon instructions and send them to me in the mail as a reminder.
