Got a little lost today...(C25K story)
So I'm doing the C25K program, and I'm halfway through week 4. I normally go to the halfway point in the run/walk system and then turn around and go back the way I came, but today I took a different street, meaning to "loop back". I ended up getting completely lost, and had to use the GPS on my phone to figure out where I was and get Dave to come and pick me up. Which meant I had to wake him up...man I'm cool. Lucky he loves me and drove up laughing, instead of being angry at the early morning wake up call!
Who else is doing the C25K program? I know there are a few of us...how is it going for you?
Re: Got a little lost today...(C25K story)
I can run a 5K without too much distress, so I'd like to build up to run in a 10K. I think it would be cool to run in an organized race. Unfortunately, there aren't all that many 10Ks, and the ones that there are seem to all be in the spring or early summer.
Except for one on December 5th, which is called "Trot for Tots" (they raise money to buy toys for needy kids for Christmas). Here's what they have to say: "The race will run, rain or shine or even snow. If there is a cancellation due to an extreme weather event it will be broadcast on WDVE and KDKA radio/TV and Posted no later than 6:00 am on www.eliterunners.com. No make-up date has been set as we plan on running in just about anything. It makes it more fun that way."
Not sure if I want to sign on for that or not!
I run outside if the weather's nice and inside on the treadmill if it's not. No real program or anything.
See, this is the first time in my life that I've been running outside instead of on a treadmill - it is way more interesting! I have never stuck with running for this long before. I am actually starting to get an idea of what people are talking about when they say they are addicted to running (I'm not there yet, but I can see what they're saying, haha).
Where I live is really really hilly though, so running outside is definitely a lot harder than running on a treadmill...so by the end of 5 minutes of running I'm gasping and I've got a cramp...but I'm sticking to it!!
I know the feeling!
I actually started running outside about three years ago, right before I met Matt. There was a great trail in my former town, and that's where I got started. Now I can walk out my front door and go! The first 0.7 mile has hills, but nothing extreme, but then it gets TOUGH. I don't run as far outside as I do on the treadmill, but I always know I got an even better workout! If I can make it all the way between the hay fields and up to where the woods start without stopping, I feel pretty hardcore. I have no idea how far that part is, but it really doesn't matter!
HH and I started walking at our local park last summer and worked our way up to running. We were walking 2 miles a night and eventually worked our way up to running a mile which was amazing for both of us. Once the weather started getting cold we quit and never started back again. HH is wanting to join a gym so we can both work out but we really don't have time right now and we never know what his hours are going to be at work. Hopefully we'll be able to work something out soon though.
DH and I just started it this week! We've taken as an opportunity to explore the new parts of our neighborhood. We haven't gotten lost yet but I suppose we will eventually.
The crazy thing is that we are leaving for Wyoming Friday and so we will be there for week 2. We totally plan on still running but we were discussing last night how the altitude is going to make it SO much harder for us! (From Dallas, TX to Jackson Hole, WY) However, when we get back to Texas next week it will be that much easier!!!
