You are the only one I know that works from home so mind if I ask you some questions.
Long story short I may get the opportunity to work from home 2-3 days a week. I have been wanting this for awhile and now that it is almost in my reach I have started to have some reservations...
1. Do you set aside working hours and try not to do housework or anything else during this time? I think this is my biggest concern. I have a feeling I might get up and do some laundry or wash some dishes and I know I need to be working.
2. Do you miss the interaction with other people?
3. Do you have trouble concentrating while working on your work?
Re: Carrie
I'll do my best to answer these...but also keep in mind that if you're onl working from home 2-3 days a week, that might be easier.
1. Do you set aside working hours and try not to do housework or anything else during this time? I think this is my biggest concern. I have a feeling I might get up and do some laundry or wash some dishes and I know I need to be working. I try to set aside working hours, but frankly, I just get bored sometimes. So there are plenty of times when I'll stop the clock and do something else...usually take the dog for a walk or play with him. Yesterday, I went to buy him some treats and get myself some coffee, and I did that in the middle of the day. I do also do laundry while I work, but I just keep the cycles moving and don't stop my time for it. I wait to fold/hang up until after I'm done working.
2. Do you miss the interaction with other people? I do miss the interaction with people. I think that's why I'm on the nest so much and stalking FB. But again, I think this would be different if you were in the office a few days a week.
3. Do you have trouble concentrating while working on your work? YES! It's not always bad, but we all have those days we don't want to work...and when I have those days, I'm literally surrounded by everything else I'd rather be doing, and there's no one here to monitor me and make me keep working. It can get hard. But that's also usually when I just stop the clock and do something else for awhile, knowing that I'll have to make up that time later (usually at night).

I guess that's one other thing to consider....would you have flexible hours, or would you need to be working set hours? I think part of my "difficulty" with these things is the fact that no one cares when I do the work...as long as it gets done and I put in 40 hours. I can work 10 hours one day and only 6 hours the next. I can put in one hour in the morning and then work late into the night. If I knew that I had to put in my 8 hours a day before 6:00pm, then I would definitely be more motivated to just keep working during the day.

Thanks for answering.
From the looks of things I will have to be logged into my computer from 8-5 everyday. I will be able to access all my files from my work computer on my work laptop and get everything done that I need to. And we have a IM system that the company uses so my girls will be able to contact me immediately.
The part I am the most worried about is just the having so much stuff around me that will distract me and get me off course. Right now I dont have anyone standing over me telling me to do this and this. So I am hoping that will help me with getting my work done that I am already so use to it.
I think my biggest hang up is I wont be there to supervise my girls and make sure they are getting their work done. I have a couple girls that lack motivation and I have to stay on them to get things turned in to me on time.
Like I said it was something I wanted for awhile and now that it might be possible I am having a semi freak out about what could all go wrong. Ugh sometimes it sucks getting older and being the boss.
Sorry to butt in but could you have a dedicated office space in another room and that way it will be like you are going to work because you are going into another room?
You might have to sit down with your girls and explain how things are going to have to be.
Jealous that you get to work from home a few days, I so want to do that.
No Heather all thoughts are def. welcome. I actually thought of this the other night and while we dont have room to have a room sit aside just for that I do have a smaller spare bedroom that has a full bed in there and it could fit a computer desk and a bookcase to hold of my work things in it. But I know me and I will be sitting on the couch working.
Well the bosses have talked of promoting one of the girls if I do work from home so many days to a supervisor type role and the girls will answer to her more so. But if she is friends with them and only knows I will be int he office on certain days she may let some things slide that I dont. I know I need to learn to give up control. But it my office. haha
