Interview Thank you Ltr

Hi,

I was going to send a thank you letter to a Manager I interviewed with for a role internally. I was going to type it, but someone said to hand write it... it's more personal.  Do I type it or hand write it?

TIA

Re: Interview Thank you Ltr

  • I would say type it, but sign it in ink.  Its so hard to read people's handwriting and I think typed gives off a more professional, polished look.  GL!

  • I agree type it but sign it in ink. The best of luck.

  • I always hand write thank yous.  I try to put somethign personal in the note and use a professional looking note card.  It makes more of an impression IMO, and getting a legal sized envelope with a typed letter could get lost in the mix of all the other legal sized typed mail the hiring manager gets daily.  If you think the decision is going to be made rather quickly, I also suggest an email.  Not as personal, but gets your name in front of them one last time.  GL!
  • I always handwrite.  I feel it is more personal and says I took an extra minute to make this personalized not just print off a stock letter, not that you would.  Handwriting is a lost art that I think people appreciate when they get one.

  • I have always been told to handwrite them by everyone I talked to.  The career services at my college and the HR department at my company say they should be hand written.  HTHs
  • Ok, I was going to type it, but I'm leaning more towards handwriting a thank you note now. I have cards with my first inital on them, that I think will work (right??). I appreciate everyone's input!
  • That was going to be my next suggestion.  I didn't think about having a nice piece of stationary/note card.  Def hand write that.

  • The initial stationary is perfect!
  • I agree initial stationary or note card would be great. I tend to type mine because my handwriting is questionable at best. But if your handwriting is pretty I say go for a hand written note.

  • Hopefully during the interview you were able to ask when you can expect to hear back on their decision. If time allows, send a handwritten note using professional/nice stationary.  Almost always in my experience the decision is faster than snail mail would allow so generally I've actually always done an email.  More often than not I've gotten the offers when doing this.  The most important points are to 1) acknowledge and show gratitude towards the opportunity, 2) highlight why you'd be a good fit for the job, 3) use a talking point from the interview to remind them of your conversation.
