First off, HI! My name is Becky and I hopped over from the Bump
today. (Thanks for the invite 715!) I'm currently living in Wilson and
moving back to Raleigh next week! YAY! DH & I have been married for 3 years and have an 18 month old son. I also have an extreme love of exclamation points!
I thought I would join in
today's posts since y'all are working so hard on keeping the board
alive!
Anyway....
When we move I plan on selling a lot of
our stuff. This is my 4th move since 2004 and I have things we just
don't need, plus things that just don't make me happy anymore. I was
thinking of just doing a yard sale because its a one shot deal, but DH
thinks we should try other sale venues first. Where do you find it
easiest to sell stuff, and to make the most $$?
I have some kitchen stuff, comforter set, small furniture, electronics and collectibles.
Re: Craigslist vs. Ebay vs. Yardsales!
I tend to like craigslist because I think you can get more money than you would at a yardsale, and it's local versus ebay. I'm not sure how active craigslist is for the Wilson area though.
Random side note- Most of my famiy lives in Wilson, so I'm quite fond of the area.
This! We usually put up our big tickets items on Craigslist (TV's, furniture, etc.). If they don't sell by the yard sale time then we add them to the yard sale pile. We have not made a ton at our yard sales, so I would just be very cautious about your expectations for making $ if you go that route.
ETA: Thanks for coming over here to play! Feel free to join us anytime!
Sellers prespective = Craigslist first, because like others have said, you can get a better price. If that didn't work, then I'd do a yard sale.
As far as ebay goes, unless it was local only or small, I feel like shipping could be a P.I.T.A
)
Buyers prespective = I prefer craigslist over yardsales because I don't feel like I have people starring at me and its less chaotic. DH and I walked down the the next neighborhood over the other day for a 'large family' one and it was just too crazy for me.
p.s. whatcha selling? DH and I are looking for furniture
) Hha
DH sells on ebay and craigslist (i've never posted one thing)
he doesn't seem to mind dealing with the shipping on ebay and he's sold big items and/or heavy items(piano keyboard for example) though for the stove that was in our house when we moved in, we put it on craigslist and it was GONE (we actually got decent money for it too)
if it is a large item, an antique or collectible worth value, than I'd try ebay and craigslist first...like pp if it doesn't sell there, then put it in your yard sale
for other standard items (books, knick knacks, baskets, etc.) I would do a yard sale and not waste time trying craigslist
just another perspective...hope it helps...
Nothing exciting! An Ikea coffee table and a modern natural wood toned curio cabinet. We may sell our old love seat depending on how things fit in the new house, but its old and tore up by the cats. I don't recommend buying it!
