Birthday party themes

We're having a birthday party for Ian at the end of the month.  It's mainly an excuse to have our families over.  I wasn't planning to have a theme but I'm getting bugged enough about it that I've started to think about it.  The kid's only one though.  Sure, he likes Elmo, but if he catches sight of a Tupperware while he's playing with his Elmo balloon, he makes a bee-line for that.

So, what do you think about themes for a one-year old's birthday party?  I'm thinking of just going with the number one as the theme.

I think you have your answer right there.

  • A Tupperware party!  It's been staring me right in the face and I didn't realize it.  Doh!!
  • Exactly.  Have a Tupperware representative sell the stuff while you're there and Ian will be stocked up on gifts.

  • We have noticed that every piece of Tupperware or Rubbermaid we own once belonged to my mother.  She gives us food and we never return the containers.
  • Why do people bother making/buying kids toys?  Kids always want the cheapest most random thing to play with.

As for themes I'd have to copy Noisy and her Hungry Caterpillar party simply because the cookies Vicki made we were too cute for words.

  • I kind of think a first birthday is purely for the adults.  The birthday boy is going to have no clue that this is all about him.  Therefore, I think the theme should be whatever you want it to be.  My vote: Tequila.

  • If only your parents had given you $20K when you were 18, you could have started your own tupperware buisness.

Husbands should be like Kleenex: Soft, strong, and disposable.
  • We aren't doing a theme. Any idea I had (like robots or dinosaurs or robot dinosaurs) I want to do when he is old enough to *get* it.

I read this as EMO party. Now that would be funny.

E had a rockstar theme.  I liked it.  I didn't go crazy though- guitar cake, guitar invitations, rockstar paperware and his music teachers did a 45 min set for the kids (all except two of the 9 kids are in his class).  It was really cute.
  • For mags first birthday we did a first birthday/ cupcakes theme. Sesame Street for age 2. She loved it.

  • I was looking at the Party City website recently and they had a bunch of Elmo/Sesame Street 1st Birthday stuff. I think a bunch of the kid stuff was on sale.

I'm pretty sure it's pronounced your mom's a moron and if you didn't have your name legally changed by the age of 22, so are you. Unless you're from another continent. -Groomz

A catalog mysteriously showed up at my house like every parenting magazine known to man after I gave birth.

  • I've settled on the Number 1 theme for Ian, vodka for everyone else.
  • Just think..next year you can do a Number 2 party. Stick out tongue
