More FB weirdness

So a FB friend was was also a friend from college passed away last year. His wife writes on his wall regularly. Wishing him happy holidays, giving him updates on their kids, wishing him a happy anniversary etc. I find this icky but hey everyone grieves in their own way. BUT she also has access to his FB and has at times posted things as him. Super icky. Plus, since she hasn't requested FB to change his profile to indicate he is deceased, he regularly shows up in that side area with FB encouraging me to send him a note, write on his wall, or help him find his friends. DO NOT WANT. I may just unfriend him but that feels creepy too.

  • Ick. I wouldn't unfriend him, but I'd hide him.

  • that is odd, but i agree with moo
  • Unfriend. He's dead and his wife is crazy.

  • Yeah...no.

  • I would unfriend him.  Maybe I'm cold hearted but it's not like he would know.

  • Defriend.

  • The only reason I wouldn't unfriend is because I would be afraid I'd lose access to pictures and things that may be locked to friends only, which is why I suggested hiding him.

  • She posts AS him?  What does she say?  "Just had a picnic with Jesus and Great Grandma Gladys."

  • When you tell FB someone is deceased it deletes all their status updates and some other things (so pretty much anything that came from them). We were really upset when someone reported Raymond as deceased. We had no plans of using it but we wanted it to stay how it was.

I would hide them or just ignore it. People go and write on Raymond's wall. I like reading it but my insane MIL who wasn't friends with Raymond signs on to her sisters account daily to comment back to ANYONE who writes him. It is flippen weird.

People write on my mom's wall all the time still.  My kooky aunt actually writes emails to her on there.  My a$$wipe sister is the main access on the account so I just don't go into it anymore.  I'm not going to hide my mom, but then i do see the messages people leave on her wall.  She also comes up on the side as a person I should "reconnect" with.  At first B and I thought it was weird, but I guess I'm just sort of used to it by now.  I guess it's nice that so many people miss her and feel the need to have a place to write "to" her- I think my brother and sister do it or at least did it too.  It's not my thing, but whatever.

The wife writing AS him is weird and creepy to me though.

  • I confess I de-friended my dead SFIL after FB tried to cajole me in to "reconnecting" with him several times a week.

    I suspect my MIL noticed.

  • I didn't realize FB deleted all the status updates. I thought it just "froze" the account for lack of a better word. Yeah I can understand not changing it to deceased so that you can keep those memories

Yea, they say they do it because it is painful but I dunno everyone reacts and wants different things. I admit, I don't reply but I go every few weeks to see if anyone wrote to Raymond. It is nice to know others miss him and were touched by him. Still I find writing as them super creepy.

  • Wow. So much bizarre.

  • my SIL passed away in '06, her daughter created a FB page for her and she posts to it pretty regularly about how much she misses her mom.  It's really sad.
