  • This totally made my evening last night.  It sounds like the opinion was very carefully constructed and well reasoned too.  Hopefully that will mean something going forward.

Forgive my ignorance, but I just don't understand the whole 'sanctity of marriage' argument.  When I got married, J and I first got our marriage papers from the City of NY.  Then we got married by a Rabbi.  So we are married in both the eyes of the city (state, country), as well as in the eyes of our religion (that's what our ketubah says, at least).  I assumed that the 'state' marriage and 'religious' marriage were separate, and the argument is merely over the 'state' marriage piece.  Regardless of the outcome, churches can still do whatever they want and can choose to recognize or not recognize same-sex marriages, correct?  If that's the case, what is the bfd?  Am I missing something?

  • November, you're asking the wrong crowd.  I don't think anyone here can even piece together a devil's advocate counterargument.
