Getting a job out of state

I am wondering if anyone has gone through this and can share their experience. I am planning on moving to NC in about a year. I am a teacher and will be applying for a new teaching job during the school year. Do companies/school districts allow only phone interviews for people who do not live close? If you have gone through this, did you have to go to the place of employment for an interview, were employers flexible with interview schedules etc? Just trying to prepare myself for the months to come. Thanks!

Re: Getting a job out of state

  • I'm a teacher and looked for jobs before moving to another state. I would say start your license process early. I applied for a lot of jobs online and if your new license was pending you could put the pending #. I actually did a Skype interview and got the job. My school does a lot of them. It's a Spanish immersion school though, so many candidates are in another country at the time. GL!

  • I had 2 weeks to get a job as we are moving to Atlanta from NYC next week. Its a bit of a crazy situation we got married 3 weeks ago Dh got accepted in to an MD fellowship program so we needed to be there YESTERDAY..., I got hired over the phone on contingent that I can fly down there this friday to meet them for the board meeting.I was told they can get my license and certification expedited.

If you need a contact in NC let me know depends on the area but I know a few principals as I am a Duke Alum and and so are they. shoot me a PM if you want to start talking to anyof them for advice

  • I lived in MD and was looking to relocate to PA where DH had gotten a job. They did a phone screen, then had me come in for an in-person interview. We negotiated when I'd be able to come interview with them.
