This summer I have been supervising 2 interns. I decided to throw a surprise farewell get-together for them to recognize all of their hard work and invited the people in the office that they have worked with over the summer. Since this shin-dig is on one of the interns' birthday, I'm going to provide dessert of some sort for the 30 people that will be attending. Any ideas for something yummy and cheap? Bonus points if you can think of something I can make on Sunday for the Tuesday party!
So far I have come up with cupcakes, brownies, banana pudding and a trifle of some sort. I'm still debating between doing a huge amount of one dessert or doing 3 regular size desserts for variety.
Re: Need Help: Dessert for Office Crowd
if you have any sort of an office budget, i'd just get a cake from Harris Teeter. that's what we usually do here.
some sort of chocolate sheet cake would be good if you need to do homemade. served with vanilla icecream.
No office budget unfortunately. That's why I'm trying to keep things on the cheaper side so DH doesn't kill me!
I do have a gigantic crock-pot! We might be on to something!
I've made this dessert before that definitely serves a bunch of people- I would say 15-20. You need a box of chocolate cake mix (and whatever oil/eggs/etc you need to make the cake), a container of Cool Whip, instant chocolate pudding (and the milk to make the pudding), and a couple of Heath bars.
Bake the cake in two round cake pans, and mix up the chocolate pudding. When the cakes have cooled, put one cake in the bottom of the large bowl, spread half the chocolate pudding on top, spread half the Cool Whip on top of that, and then crumble one of the Heath bars on top of that. Repeat the layers. Keep refrigerated. When you go to serve it, just use a large spoon and scoop out the servings. The presentation isn't the most beautiful, but it's pretty tasty!
My idea is similar to Dukes. It's super easy (and so not healthy!)
All you need is a few boxes of chocolate pudding, a bag (or maybe two) of your favorite chocolate chip cookies
Container or cool whip (or two).
If you have a trifle bowl, I would use that.
Prep: Crumble cookies into chunks.
Make chocolate pudding according to directions
Unthaw cool whip.
To make: In your trifle dish, put a layer of cookies on the bottom. Then a layer of chocolate pudding, then a layer of cool whip. Repeat until you reach the top (or a good height). I'd normally garnish the top layer of whipped cream with something like raspberries, sprinkles or both. It's a favorite indulgence of mine.
(and yes, it's kid-like, but who doesn't like or love those ingredients??)
My go to lately is whoopie pies. They've always been a huge hit. Super easy as well. I found the recipe on this blog. I've made the red velvet and also changed it make devil's food.
