I don't think it is.  It's my FAVORITE cake too!  I make it homemade but the boxed version with cream cheese frosting is YUMMO!!!

  • Can I count if I had red velvet cake yogurt? That was surprisingly good.

No. It's a very dense cake, but it's not chocolate-y at all to me.

  • Red Velvet cake (from scratch at least) is basically a yellow or vanilla cake with a few tablespoons of cocoa powder and red food coloring. Some recipes use beet juice to make the cake red... So it's kind of like a 2/3 vanilla 1/3 chocolate cake :) It's not one of my favorites, but, I think I'd probably eat any kind of cake that was put in front of me!

It does have a bit of cocoa in it, but it is not obviously chocolate.  I'd say it is more like an in between chocolate and vanilla flavor.  The red just comes from food coloring I think.

  • I made red velvet cake with my GMIL one year and tried to convince her it would be funny to make the cake green, blue, or purple - anything but red.  She did not take to the idea very well.  I think I may have offended her that I wanted to change it up a bit.  haha
