Oh sh!t, I am "that" wife!!! BR

I am "that woman" who expects a lot more out of her husband for no justified reason.  For some reason I think that my husband should suddenly be at my service every second of every day.  I need to stop yet I can't!

I argue with him about everything and I will cry the second I don't get my way.  This is not the "normal" me, I am usually fairly rational.

My husband is cheap, I am aware of this and have been since I met him.  I am not cheap and want the best of most everything.... he has always been aware of that too.  lol  Why does he think things are suddenly going to change?

This is just a vent, I really don't need advice or anything, I know I am being irrational about a couple of things.  Wink  HOWEVER, I would be more than happy to let someone talk some sense into my H because he seriously missed a couple of things like...  You don't buy used carseats and used cribs.  Safety of your child is priceless in my book.

BTW Jenn, I am keeping the Britax which he thinks he is going to move from one car to another when the baby outgrows the infant seat.  LMAO It is all too obvious that he has never installed a carseat.

Re: Oh sh!t, I am "that" wife!!! BR

  • Didn't he get the memo that if he would just do things the way you want them to that life would be MUCH easier? Wink  I don't think it's irrational to want new things for the baby. The way I see it is if it's new (especially carseats) then you know that it's safe. How do you know that a used carseat you buy off of CL wasn't in an accident?

  • FWIW, I agree with you completely on the crib/carseat issue!  Brand new is the only way to go--especially with all of the recalls.

If there's something you feel passionately about, then stick to your guns.  He'll ease up if he knows you're not budging!  And please continue to be a little needy--you are doing something very special for the both of you, and you deserve to be doted on a little!

  • Eh. I am "that wife" too. I expect nothing less than 110% out of myself - why would I expect anything less than that from someone else??

As far as the used car seat/crib thing - that's just weird.

  • He is just not educated and thinks that I am being crazy about this stuff, getting him to see the light is a bit difficult.  "I didn't need this when I was a baby, why do they need it now?" Umm because too many babies and children died without all of the extra stuff, thanks!

He will be getting lots of links to safety articles about the carseat issue today.

    BTW, we are not broke!

Dude, Tyler has tried to shut down my buying too.  We aren't broke either, he just probably feels like pulling the reigns in a little.

I definitely let him know that I wasn't going to be spending our life savings and that there were just some things that we needed to get finished before I felt like we could take a break from buying.  He finally saw the light when the sun was GLARING in on us when we had our neighbors over for dinner.  We ordered window treatments the next day.  I'm telling you--a stubborn wife is no match for anything that he has in his pocket!

I go through the same crap with my H. He has gotten better but I have to remind him I work too so I am also spending my money. We are not broke either and we do have a pretty good savings so I know were not going to go broke.

I have also already informed the H that when I get KU were buying nothing but Britax car seats and I will be purchasing them (baby and toddler seats) as soon as we find out were expecting.

DH was exactly this while I was pg with M. I did my research on everything. From baby monitors to cribs and I would send all of it to him so he would know exactly what I knew. Maybe if he knew the disadvantages as to why you need something new instead of used he might change his mind. Here I found this: http://pediatrics.about.com/od/carseats/a/1208_used_seats.htm

It also talks about ways you can save money when buying a carseat.

  • Brand new car seat with matching bases for each car....  Done!  See, he just needed me to ride his @ss for a few hours.  Wink Now, on to the next task....

  • Tell J to relax. You guys won't be paying for everything the baby needs. You'll get some big things through showers.

I am still undecided about a shower.  Stick out tongue

  • as long as I don't go crazy, H understands about things we need for Conner/Carson. Although I'm still trying to convience him we need the baby jogger double :0)

  • I am pretty damn cheap, but I would not have gotten a used crib or car seat.  I actually convinced H to use part of our tax refund to get a pretty damn pricey car seat for DS when he couldn't sit rear-facing in his old one any more.  I like to save $, but I'm not messing around with my kids' safety.  I'm glad you were able to get your H to see the error of his ways!

you need it more than I do Smile  I just wanted an extra seat if I could get a good one that cheap  Smile.  We just leave the kids seats in my car and whoever has the kids has my car and whoever doesn't has his.  It is a lot of work to get the carseats in and out and get them installed the right way.

I also wouldn't get used a used carseat or crib.  I am pretty thrify, but those are things you need new IMO.  Your kids can't be replaced if something happens to them.

  • The roles in our house are completely reversed.  I can totally relate to J but at the same time I know there are some things that HAVE to be bought new like the car seat and crib.  You deserve to give your baby the best.  Just keep hounding J!
