My 'baby' is getting braces Monday!
I took S for an ortho evaluation yesterday and the Dr said he's ready to go! They took the panoramic xray, head xray, did the study model and put in spacers. He gets the full set on Monday. Just like that, my BABY is getting braces! I am old!

awww, poor guy doesn't know what he is getting into! I remember being so excited and then once they were on and they hurt I was regretting it!
btw - you are not old!
I love Hawaii!

my sister (age 22) just finished up with a year of braces. she had them as a child and didn't follow through with retainers. she got them off the first time by age 11 or so and I wonder if that had something to do with it - she obviously wasn't done developing and her teeth would shift if she didn't wear her retainer 12 hours a day. She gave up after a couple of years and by the time she was 18 her teeth were horrible again. (yes, it was her fault for not wearing the retainer, but still....)
I had braces from about age 12-14. I haven't worn a retainer in years but luckily only my bottom teeth shifted and I can live with that. If they go any more though I might have to consider some ortho work again.
AND my MOM is getting braces. She never had them but her teeth have always embarrassed her. She liked my sister's ortho for the 2nd go round so much that she inquired about getting them herself.
My son is going to be 12 next month. He has two teeth that he lost over a year ago and they haven't come in yet because there is no room for them. He totally knows what he's getting into, the oldest step sister just got hers off last year and the youngest has about a year to go with hers. His ortho puts a permanent retainer behind the bottom teeth once the braces are off, so that should help with movement as he gets older.
I can't believe how expensive they are for a straightforward case (no teeth pulling, no special appliances or head gear). Luckily MH has great dental insurance.
