Obnoxious Phone Calls - Help

So for the past few months I've been getting these phone calls from a recorded message on my cell phone.  At this point I've received over a dozen asking me if I owe debt to the IRS and if so to press 1.  At first I just hung up but then I decided to ask to be removed.

Long story short, they hang up every time I ask for the companies name or their name.  I've filed numerous complaints with the National Do Not Call registry online but am still getting the calls.

Does anyone know if I can speak to someone or an agency about these calls to get them to stop?  I've tried reverse directory to find out who they are and dialing back but they're still coming.  It's getting really annoying since the last few days I've received one call daily.

ETA- I just spoke to T-Mobile and they suggested that it's probably not a company but more than likely a scam.  You'd think if that were the case they wouldn't continue to call the same people who obviously aren't giving them what they want.

  • I have no suggestions, but that sounds really annoying!  Is there any way for t-mobil to block the #?

  • No they said the only solution on their part would be for me to have my number changed.
  • It's crazy you post this...I got a text 2 days ago asking the same thing!  "Do you owe the IRS $10,000.00....".  (uhhh...no)  And I get Private Number calls more than I get calls that are actually for me!  I'm with Sprint though.  I'm on the do not call list too.
  • That's exactly what they're saying.  It's gotta be the same place.  I just contacted the FTC to get copies of the reports I've filed with them.  I'm going to see about filing a police report before changing my number.  Not sure if they can do anything about it though.  We'll see.
  • I haven't gotten any calls like this but I did a quick Google search and it looks like the IRS is aware of this and trying to stop it.  I would recommend sending them an email about the calls.  Here's what the website says:

    What to Do

Anyone wishing to access the IRS Web site should initiate contact by typing the IRS.gov address into their Internet address window, rather than clicking on a link in an e-mail or opening an attachment.

Those who have received a questionable e-mail claiming to come from the IRS may forward it to a mailbox the IRS has established to receive such e-mails, phishing@irs.gov, using instructions contained in an article titled ?How to Protect Yourself from Suspicious E-Mails or Phishing Schemes.? Following the instructions will help the IRS track the suspicious e-mail to its origins and shut down the scam. Find the article by visiting IRS.gov and entering the words ?suspicious e-mails? into the search box in the upper right corner of the front page.

Those who have received a questionable telephone call that claims to come from the IRS may also use the phishing@irs.gov mailbox to notify the IRS of the scam.

The IRS has issued previous warnings on scams that use the IRS to lure victims into believing the scam is legitimate. More information on identity theft, phishing and telephone scams using the IRS name, logo or spoofed (copied) Web site is available on this Web site. Enter the terms ?phishing,? ?identity theft? or ?e-mail scams? into the search box in the upper right corner of the front page.

Interesting, I'll have to check this out.  I wonder if it matters if they're not posing as the IRS but acting as though they're debt consolidators to help with IRS issues.

In the grand scheme of things I'm sure they're really all the same scam.
