Thoughts on Bedrest

-When you are sitting at work the thought of laying in bed all day and having someone cater to your every need sounds glorious. In reality, it bites the big one.

-You don't realize how many times you get up or how much time you spend standing until you can't do it anymore.

-My dog snores 1,000% more during the day than she does at night. Seriously, I had to mute myself on a conference call today because she sounded like a chainsaw.

I was on bedrest for a few days, off for a few days and as of Monday I am back on and don't think I am getting off. I am working from home and I can't even sit up straight. I can only get up to pee and take a quick shower. Do you know how hard it is to lay down all day? I have to be reclined at all times.

I went to L&D to be monitored for contractions but there weren't enough to keep me (Thank God) so they sent me home. I got the steroid shots for the babies' lungs in case they make an early escape.

My H has been great but I feel so helpless. I literally can't do anything for myself anymore.  I did discover online food shopping though and that is awesome.

Re: Thoughts on Bedrest

  • Yeah, that does sound like it would be miserable. At least you know it's for a good cause and you have beautiful healthy babies to look forward to.

Keep that in mind if NKOTB come to town ;)

  • I'm sorry you can't appreciate this glorious gift you have been given.  Bedrest should be treasured.

I keed, I keed!  I'm sure it sucks a big fat one, especially since you have to be reclined at all times.  I love sleep and lying still without moving to the point I can feel my muscles atrophy, but I realize I'm a freak of nature that way.

  • ugh, that has to be hard/ i had a hard time with restricted activity
  • This does sound like it bites.  I'm sorry you're having to stay on bedrest.  Great news that the contractions are staying at bay for the time being, though.
  • The hardest part is not being able to do little things like throw in a load of laundry, load the dishwasher, make dinner, etc.  I wait until I have to pee before I can refill my water or get a snack to minimize my standing time.

It's all for the babies though and they have to be my top priority.  We had an u/s on Tuesday and they are 2lbs9oz and 2lbs6oz.  Still way to small to be outside babies!

  • That sounds rough.  If anyone tells you that in a few months, when those babies arrive, you'll be wishing for bedrest, you have permission to slap them
  • I've already heard that one, Kay.  It's almost as fun as "get your sleep now!"  If I take a nap now you really think it's going to help me when the babies come? You really think I can put that sleep in a bank and pull it out when I'm extra tired?

  • I think I would go crazy. Hang in there.

  • Oh man.  I'm sorry BB.  I would go stir crazy.  Do they have a date after which they'll let you start moving around again?  I'm guessing you're not expected to go all the way to 40 wks (I hope!)

  • ugh, I'm so sorry BB.  I know it'll be worth it, but it must be really hard to lay all day.  I think that in theory we'd all like "home rest," not "bed rest" because, you're right . . . everything you can think of requires standing up or at least sitting up. : (

best of luck to you and keep those legs closed as tight as a virgins'!

  • oof, that sounds horrible.  I hope the time passes quickly for you.

  • Home rest would be great.  There are a million things I'd love to be doing. It's this whole "you can only lay down" thing that sucks.  I am really bummed I won't be able to buzz around the nursery to get things set up the way I want them.

I will be evaluated every week to check on the state of the cervix. My big weekly outing!! Where I get to wear clothes and see the outside world! My perinatologist would like to see me get to 33 weeks. The hospital says 34 weeks is great. The OB would like 37 weeks. So really, I have no idea. I'd like to get to at least 36 but I am setting short goals. Right now it's to get to 34.

  • I cannot fathom laying down for 6 weeks.   Haysuz Christo that would suck.

  • My cousin was on bed rest like this for the last month + of her pregnancy.  Her husband put a cooler next to the bed so she didn't have to get up for food & water & put the lights on a remote control.  She listened to a lot of movies / tv shows and was fortunate to have close friends / family visit often. (they would call first and she would give them the code to the garage)

Incidentally her daughter is named after two characters from the Young and the Restless.

  • I'm sorry you're on bedrest. It sucks. Small goals were key for me, as were visitors. I hear you on missing out on nesting-that's what I missed the most too. I hope the time passes as quickly as possible for you and I'm glad to hear you're at home.
