jehawley you started a bad thing!

I just happened to have a barefoot contessa cupcake mix in the cupboard, all the ingredients, and haven't used my new mixer yet... and I was craving something sweet. Lucky hubby had his favorite for dinner last night, and is now getting cupcakes! I'm just gonna get fat.

As a pastry chef... I would like to say that your corn on the cob cupcakes were stinkin adorable!  And I AM conquering the world one cupcake at a time and the current creation I'm working on I would REALLY like to name "Oh, Canada!"  Without divulging too much, bacon and maple syrup are main components!

  • I am probably the one Canadian who doesn't love either. You should throw some beer into their too! ;)

What's it like being a pastry chef? I'm kinda considering pursing it. Planning on going back to school in the Spring. Still deciding what for.

  • Well... there's not a LOT of money in it! HAHAHA!  It's a field that has grown a lot in the last couple of years.  Cupcake bakeries are opening up left and right.  And to get in at a good shop, well that's just lucky because it seems like NO ONE ever leaves.

I've been slowly trying to build up my business over the past couple of years.  I do custom cakes and cupcakes from home.  I have a job as a baker that actually provides me with a paycheck every week but I don't love it.

It's really hard to open a bakery and have it last around here.  There's a few places that people have ALWAYS gone and they aren't usually open to change. Which sucks because the cakes I have had from said bakeries... SUCK!

All that being said.  I LOVE what I do.  I enjoyed school for the most part (we had to do a LOT of journaling).  It would just be nice to be able to make the things that I love  to make all the time.  I just don't have the resources/time/demand for it where I work.
