What to see in Downtown Albany?

Hey there!  IL's are coming tomorrow and MIL would like to see/tour some of the State Offices, etc... downtown.  I have never done that.  Have only walked the plaza and been to the museum.

Any suggestions, tips/advice, things I should know or look at?

TIA!

  • You can take a tour of the Capitol or just walk it yourself.  I never see the paid exhibits in the state museum (I'm cheap) but some of the free ones are good.  If they like art you can go across the the Art Institute a little further up Washington Avenue.  And if it's nice out you can get lunch from one of the vendors...though the legislative session is out so there's not as many of them.  I love the BBQ truck right on the Plaza.  On the 15th floor of the Corning Tower (the tallest building on the Plaza) there's a cool observatory.  Have fun!

  • And I just remembered you can take a tour with the Albany Aqua Ducks.  It goes in and out of the Hudson.  I want someone to come visit me so I can take it.  A little pricey but it looks fun.

  • There is an old war submarine called the USS Slater and it's a museum. I've always wanted to see it and only heard great things about it.
