Care package suggestions

A friend of mine from HS is in Iraq so, obviously, he won't be at our reunion this weekend.  We're going to send him a care package from all of us, what do y'all think we should include?

Ideas so far--toiletry items (shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.), snacks (beef jerky, sunflower seeds), magazines, cards/dice, pens, paper, phone cards, disposable cameras....can you think of anything else?  Any other snacks or things he can do during his down time?  I'm hoping we have a lot of people contribute to it, I think he'll be really happy to get it!

Re: Care package suggestions

  • DH's cousin always wants those reusable ice pack things. I don't know what they are called but you can get them at the camping store and you put them in your socks or pockets and they stay cool for 4 hours.

  • We have a couple of officers in Iraq that we send care packages to and what you have mentioned are great ideas.  We have also sent baby wipes, chap stick, candy/gum, batteries, crystal light/gatorade powder packs, writing paper, envelopes, stamps.
  • sock and water flavoring packs (kool-aid and crystal light) and gatorade. My bestfriends husband is in Afganistan right now and those are some things she sends him. Chapstick is a good one too.

  • I don't know what you can and can't send, but since the reunion is this weekend (or whenever it is) and everyone will be sitting around and talking about the past (I assume this is how reunions lean at some point or another), then maybe you could send him a few copies of some old pictures of friends and whatnot...

  • Oh I just thought of another idea. Get a notebook and have everyone write him a note or decorate a page of the notebook. I know our Soldiers love to get things like that.
