So I had one last bank to go to this morning to change my name on an account. It's a joint account with my mother that I barely ever use and basically just exists in case of an emergency so it wasn't high on my priority list of places to go to change my name right after the wedding.
Anyway, so I'm in there this morning with the lady helping me and she's asking me this random questions like, "So are you going to hyphenate your name?" Um, no. It's just as it's written there - firstname lastname. Just type it in... Then she asks me, "Is this the first marriage for both?" I'm like, "For me." (DH's 2nd). So then she says merrily, "Oh well, being #2 doesn't mean anything!" Yes, I know. Thank you for reinforcing that you moron. And then blathering on about how sometimes people make mistakes in their 20's, blah blah....ugh! I was like, "Ok well thank you..."
I realize she was probably just attempting to make small talk but seriously? You're annoying. Just type it in your computer and let's skip the irritation. ![]()
Re: Lady at the bank..
People are dumb. Since my new last name is rather unusual, I keep getting people who say "Why'd you even change your name in the first place???" Um, because it had never even crossed my mind to NOT change it? What was I supposed to do? Sorry, Adam... I love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you, but your last name is weird so I'm keeping mine? Dude, it's none of your effing business why I decided to change my last name... just deal with it!! It's like I told one of my coworkers, if Adam's last name had been A$$hole, I'd still have changed my name to Sara A$$hole (it wouldn't be very awesome, but I'd still do it!!!).
Ha - people are dumb. Why do they think it's okay to ask some of the things they ask? What business is it that you took your husband's (albeit weird) last name? My husband has a weird last name, too, but then again my maiden name was no picnic either, so who cares. And I'm happy to take his - it was very important to him!
My friends with kids say, "Just wait until you have a baby! Everyone will think it's okay to comment on that all the time, too!" I'm sure.
Ha, I'd be Mrs. @$$hole as well since it meant that much to DH for me to take his last name.
