disposing of paint?

We're in the process of moving in/painting our new apartment!  Any green painting tips?  Also, what is the best way to dispose of paint?

Re: disposing of paint?

  • Save some paint for touch ups.  Otherwise, paint is included in our city's toxic waste category and has to be dropped off on a certain day of the month.

  • Oil or latex paint? It probably depends of your local regulations. I just looked up mine recently, and they say to let latex paint dry in the can and then put the whole thing in the trash. Oil paint needs to be dropped off like hazardous waste.

  • Depends on type of paint, check your city/town waste regs for disposal but the best you can do is try to reuse or save it or freecycle maybe?

  • Here, the recycling depots take it. They just set it out and let people take what they want.

Otherwise, freecycle or CL (for free) would be great. Just put up an ad and leave it out front if you don't want to deal with people. Remove ad when it's gone.

  • My dad used to just mix all the old paint together, and come up witha  greyish color, and use it to paint the garage.  Do you know anyone who might want to do something like that?  Maybe Freecycle?
