Poll: dress codes

i'm just curious:

what is the dress code at your job? business, business casual, casual?

I feel like I'm super lucky in the dress code department since I work at libraries there's no real Code, but limitations (no writing, flip-flops or bar tops).

do tell, ya'll!

Re: Poll: dress codes

  • At my company it depends on the department your're in. My department is business casual, however if you're doing a client visit must be business.

  • Normally we go by business casual Mon-Thu and casual Fridays.  But this month my boss decided we would be casual all month - also with limitations aka "use your best judgement."

Every now and then we have to bump it up to business professional if the big dogs come in for a visit. I hate wearing a suit to work!

  • I work as a nanny so it's always casual there and I work in a kitchen for some extra income, which is also casual.

I do wish sometimes that I worked in a place that required nicer clothes, mostly because I love getting a little dressed up.

  • Business or business professional depending on what client I am working at. I miss the good ol days of business casual...

  • its casual here. i wear jeans and a nice shirt and flipflops everyday. pretty much the same goes for everyone else... jeans, shirt/tshirt, sneakers. there is someone here who wears sweatpants (nice ones, of course) everyday. we rarely have anyone come into the office so its not a big deal.

  • Somewhere between business professional and business casual.  No khakis but it doesn't have to be a suit.
  • Our director is pretty laid back as long as your boobs are hanging out or you see your shorts are so short you can see your butt. I guess she trusts our judgment bc most of the teachers are older anyway. I am the youngest there this year.

Basically, as long as it is kid appropriate, we are allowed to wear shorts, flip flops, whatever.

My other preschool had a stricter dress code so it kinda surprised me. But in the south everything is pretty much laid back.

  • DISD probably has the most strict dress code of all the school's in the metroplex.  It's business casual May-September, but the rest of the year it's no capris, hose with dresses and skirts (who wears hose????), ties for men, and no open toed shoes.  I tend to push the dress code a bit... especially the open toed shoe part (and since I won't wear hose, I just don't wear skirts).  Our new principal is a more relaxed than our last, but still no Khakis except for Fridays and ABSOLUTELY no denim, ever.

It turned into a bit of a fight when they told us no khakis or denim skirts.  Most of my pants and many of my longed sleeved shirts have glue and overhead pen on them.  And it's hard to wear skirts when you are up and down all day.  The argument was we're professionals like lawyers and business people and should present ourselves as such.  Our return was, you want us to dress like lawyers, pay us like lawyers.  We lost :)

  • Current job = business casual

New job = business professional/business casual. Definitely do not have to wear suits everyday, but definitely a bit more business than the last job, which was a lot of pants/sweaters/polos wearing.

  • It definitely depends on the department your in. Im in accounting. Since we dont deal with the public really, its casual. And I love it. ! Those in the internet department, sometimes do sales, so they are business casual. Our sales people, f&i, and managers are business attire. But they get around it, by buying our company logo polo shirts and wearing nice dress pants.
  • I wear scrubs that come from a machine (they're cleaned by the hospital & aren't supposed to leave the hospital.)  We're a "clean" unit, so I have a pair of dedicated shoes that I only wear at work (& stay at work) no rings with stones, 1 pair of stud earrings, no necklaces. (as we go into the OR for deliveries)  Im also supposed to wear a lab coat or cover gown if I leave my unit.

  • Casual, I work in a juvenile residential placement so who knows what is going to happen everyday. We cannot wear shorts or tight-fitting. It's recommended to not wear open toed or heels and no tank tops.

  • Business casual. Absolutly no flip flops, no jeans. I wish we could wear jeans.

  • We have a uniform that makes us look like we work at Walmart. But our new hires have to wear business casual. We had one new hire that decided to wear her thong outside her clothes to try to get a husband. Boy, that was so funny.

  • business casual; jeans on Fridays.

We've gotten to wear jeans for the last 3 weeks because we're reconfiguring our spaces and have to pack/move everything.

  • Most days @ work - scrubs...aaah so comfy but so unflattering!  It is pretty easy.  If I am doing my office work - then between business casual and professional with my white coat.  No open toed shoes is the rule - but we do not always abide by this.  If I am not going in a patient room, why can I not have peep toe heels on?  I like to dress nice, so I am thankful when I am in the office and can wear something other than scrubs.
  • Business casual, jeans on Fridays (unless there's a client visit)

The women at my job take "business casual" to a whole new low... Yeah, shorts (even the nice ones) and leggings are not work appropriate, people!

Last Friday, I even saw a girl wearing denim shorts! It's jeans day, true, but I'm pretty sure that means jeans in pants form or tasteful skirt form.

  • Scrubs and closed toed shoes M-Th, Friday is casual so we can wear jeans, slacks or khaki's with work issued polo, lab coat and closed toe shoes. It's boring but it beats having to decide what to wear in the morning. Also like Megs no rings with stones, stud earrings only, no nails, or polish.
