xp WWYD re: job interview

I posted this on my local board, but it's been a little slow over there, so thought I might get more responses over here.  TIA for any advice!

The initial interview was with a recruiter.  Before I left the interview, he told me that he thought I would be a good fit for the position and that he wanted me to go meet with his client for a second interview, and that he would be in touch with me this week to set something up.  The position is scheduled to start on Monday (as in this Monday, the 9th).

Well, he called me yesterday and was like "would you be available tomorrow for a 2:00 interview tomorrow?  I know it's short notice, but if they like you, could you start on Monday?"  I told him that I could do the interview and also start on Monday.  He told me he would talk to the client and call me back yesterday evening or this morning to confirm the time and location.  I still haven't heard from him.  I called and left him a voice mail about an hour ago, and still nothing.

I'm confused because it seems like this guy is either being wishy washy, or else a total flake.  He made it very clear when I talked to him in our initial meeting that he thought I would be great for the job, so I'm inclined to believe that he is being flakey. I'd hate to have my job prospect hinge on a recruiter who can't get his head out of his a$$, KWIM?

What do I do??  I googled the address, so I'm debating on whether or not to just show up at 2:00.  I do know the name of the manager he wanted me to meet with.  But would that be weird?  I am getting desperate for a job, and if I could start working on Monday, that would be awesome!

Re: xp WWYD re: job interview

  • No I would not show up. He said he was going to speak w/ the client. From that, something may have come up.  It sucks he hasn't called you, but I doubt he's THAT flakey.

  • In my experience what recruiters tell you is very rarely what happens. They either guess or discuss things in passing and when they need to finalize with the client, things change.

Sit tight and wait to get the call.
