:Chichick00: re: 3D tv

I see your DH is set on a 3D tv.  Has he done a lot of research on it?  Everything I've read is making us side with not getting one.  Not only are they ar least $1k more, but you have to get special equipment and there are so few things you can actually watch in 3D on it.  There aren't that many 3D movies out.  I've also heard it only works good if you get a really large one and have a really large room to watch it in because you don't want to sit too close to it.  And that extra 3D glasses are $150 a piece!

Supposedly prices are supposed to dramatically decrease around Christmas time though if he can wait?!

Here is a good article I found about it.  Good luck and let me know if you get one and how you like it!!

Re: :Chichick00: re: 3D tv

  • Thanks for the info! i did just email DH the article to see his thoughts but my hubby is the king of research...even though it is good that he likes to do it, it gets aggrvating because i am more of the "lets just do it!" type when he will look stuff up for 2 weeks.

    We are getting a pretty good deal on it (my brother is a manager of a best buy so beside him, we have some good connections) so we are getting the tv for cost, which in turn is only like $200 more than the best tv they have out there that is not 3D. We are getting the tv, 3d blu ray player, two sets of glasses, and the 4 year warranty for about $3000, which i guess isnt TOO bad?? We have a 60 inch tv now and the biggest 3d samsung one is 55 (so DH isnt happy to downsize...but i am fine with it because ours now is just SO big!)

    That was the only thing that I dont like is that extra glasses are so much...but DH said we will get two pairs for us and when guests come over we will shut the 3d option off. I think the main reason he wants it is because we have direct tv and they already have ESPN in 3d so he is so excited for that. I told him we should wait a few months for the price to drop more because they are so new right now and in high demand but i don't think i am going to win this battle! I will let you know what happens tonight and how we like it if we get one!!

  • That seems like a FANTASTIC deal for everything you're getting!  What are you going to do with a 60" tv AND a 55" tv?  That's a lot of tv lol!!!
  • oh good! DH told me it was a good deal and so did my bro...but im not really into electronics so they could tell me that and i wouldn't know one way or the other! DH wants to put the 60" in our bedroom and that was a big fat NO on my part! Then he was going to give it to his parents since they paid for our wedding unexpetedly, but it is too big for them to put it anywhere...so i am not sure what we are going to do with it!
  • ::BUTTING IN::

    We have a 3D Tv, DH actually got it before it officially came out because the store accidently put it out. I think we have a 52 inch. We got a great deal on it though because Jason used to work at Best Buy and the Tv came out right before he left. We have two pairs of glasses and eventually when more things come out in 3D we may get more. We have it in our media room and the chairs are about 10 ft. away and we don't have any problems seeing. We only have one 3D movie though and after the intial showing it off to everyone we rarely use the 3D function. Jason uses it sometimes now that there are some 3D video games.

    The main reason we got it when we did is because of DH's discount, if it wasn't for that we would probably have waited until more movies come out in 3D. Jason thinks this is the future of Tv so it was a good investment, haha :-)

  • Dan thinks its a good investment too because a lot of stuff will be 3D in the next few month and a lot  more movies are coming out...and he found out the superbowl will be in 3D...after he heard that last night...we bought it! LOL

    So for now its sitting in our car and i anxiously wait till I hear him swear all day while he is trying to install it on the wall with the mount we bought...wish me luck!

    I do have to admit, the 3D tv is pretty cool...so far!
