boudoir photography?

So, I'm thinking about doing this for my husband. I've been looking around places near me, and some charge $100 for an hour and some are charging over $600. Anyway, has anyone ever done it? Was it fun? How much?

 Thanks!

    nevermind.

I am guessing your experience wasn't the best.:(

  • I did this as my wedding gift to DH. I was so nervous before going, but my nerves calmed down after the first outfit. It was such a fun experience and I highly recommend it. I paid $550 for the photo session, coffee table book, and the hair and makeup artist was also included and was on-site. If that seems to be high, I would look into boudoir photographers that do "marathon sessions". I know some of the ones around here do, and if you book during that time you get a great discount. It all depends on what you want and the quality. You get what you pay for, but I know my same photographer had cheaper packages but then you didn't get the book or the hair and makeup included. He also had much more expensive packages. HTH!
  • I had them done this past February. I promised myself that if I got down to under 150lbs before my 30th birthday that I'd have them done.

I think you do get what you pay for. My session was done by a husband/wife photography team (www.regeti.com for examples click on Portraits->Galleries->RP boudoir). It cost around $700, & included hair/makeup, 30ish retouched photos, all photos on disc, reprint rights, & a small 4-pic foldout display.

It did wonders for my self esteem. I've always had self-esteem & body image issues. After seeing the results of that shoot, I've never felt so good about the way I look. It was the ultimate self-confidence booster, & I consider it my 2nd best splurge ever (1st was LASIK). HTH :)

  • I went in a bit apprehensive at first, but the photographers were very professional; I forgot all my body-image complexes and enjoyed it thoroughly.

It was such a great idea, and DH loooved it!  I want to do it again soon! Big Smile

  • I did them for H for this past Christmas.  I loved, loved, loved it.  It was so much fun.  H really liked them, too.  I only paid $100 for my photographer because she is new and is just now getting her business going.  I felt so comfortable with her and was thrilled at how the pictures turned out.  I then made my own book using blurb.com.  I got about 75 edited, copyright free pictures on a disc.  I did look around and other photographers were charging about $300 to $500 for an hour of shooting time, less pictures, and they were copyrighted.  I couldn't afford that, so I was thankful to find my photographer.  Her pictures, to me, look like they cost $500.  She is from my hometown and went to school with my sister, but I had never met her before.

I plan on doing them again because I had so much fun and I've thought of different poses, outfits, etc.  I will definitely use her again.  I mean, I was running around the house naked I felt so comfortable.

Here's my blog link of the pictures.  http://mylifewithtwodogsandahusband.blogspot.com/2010/01/ooh-la-la.html

  • I'm getting ready to do a shoot on the 29th for my DH for our anniversary. I'm paying $350 for 3 hours, a "little black book" with 20 retouched shots in it, an assistant, and a cd with all the prints. I got such a good deal because I agreed to sign a model release form so the photographer can use some of the not as risque ones on her website and blog.
  • I absolutely want to do these! My husband is the type that loves lingerie and sexy poses, so I know he'd love them. I'm planning on doing them for our one year. I was hoping to have them done by Christmas, but I've yet to find a photog I can afford that does them, like pp said, elegantly.

     Good luck and have fun!

  • My experience was JUST like Summerkutie's. I went for my shoot about 2 months before my wedding as my gift to my husband-to-be. I gave him the book of prints on our wedding night. It cost me the same ($550) and included hair/makeup/book, etc. and my photography booked a room in a top hotel in the area. I was so, soooo, sooooooooooo nervous before-hand but it was SO worth it and believe it or not, FUN. I'd definitely do it again! It's a great idea for a wedding gift I think! In my case, my husband never would have guessed I'd do that so I think he was super surprised and excited - which kickstarted our marriage in a great way! :-p
  • I did a session in April so I would have the photos back to give the Mr. while we were on our honeymoon 2 weeks ago. He loved them. He was so so stunned. I took part in a marthon session and paid 300.00. My sister did my make up and hair since she's a stylist and I made my own book online to give the Mr. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

  • I did it and it was great. Try craigslist or modelmayhem.com. A lot of photographers want to expand their portfolios and will do it for free!

  • I also did this as a wedding gift to DH, and he LOVED it. I was nervous at first, but once we got going it was fun! Mine were pretty PG and you can go as nude or not nude as you want. Once I got the pictures back I was floored! I looked good!! (retouching doesn't hurt haha). I almost wanted to keep the book for myself because it made me feel good about myself, but DH is very happy I decided to let him have it! :o) I highly recommend it. p.s. mine cost around $300 for an hour but hair and make-up weren't included (photos were in a hotel room so most of that fee was paying for the room). GL!

  • I did this for my husband's birthday a few years ago.  I paid $400, and that was with a military discount because he was in Afghanistan at the time.

It took a little while to get comfortable, but the pictures came out great and I had some 8 x 10s printed for an album to send him.  He actually asked me to send a couple of them on his phone the other day since he's away again.  We even plan to frame our (less exposed) favorites to hang in the bedroom.

I say go for it!!  It's fun and definitely worth it!

  • I had it done a few years ago for my husband, nerves were a big thing for me but after a couple of minutes they went away and I had a great time. My husband LOVE IT!! I made a coffee table book and took 12 of my favs and made him a calendar too.
