Sandals Royal Bahamian

We're heading there for vaca in less than two weeks!  I know we've had at least a few DW girls get married there so hopefully some of you are still around!  Just wondering if you have any suggestions on things to avoid, any must-dos, and favorite restaurants at the resort?

Re: Sandals Royal Bahamian

  • Hi Amanda!! I'm not of any help to you, just wanted to say I'm totally jealous!

  • Did I tell you my parents went there for their 25th?  They loved every minute of it and had nothing bad to say about any of it, so I think you're good to go.  My mom was addicted to mango daqs
  • Thanks girls!
  • I got married there 5/09.  you have to try the Miami Vice...  that drink is amazing.  Not much to stay away from, it was all amazing!  The pool on the island is tiny, but you have the whole island to wander around so we didn't care.
  • Lisa's right: I've been there.  Me and DH were just there in March for our "babymoon."  I'll be honest.  It wasn't my favorite of their resorts.  Granted this probably had a lot to with when we went.  The pools aren't heated and they were freezing.  I'm talking there wasn't a single person in them freezing.  Since you're going in August, this shouldn't be an issue.  There were some little things too.  On day when we were on the private island, they ran out of beer.  Not the hugest deal, but just strange.  We were at the French restaurant and they ran out of Creme Brulee.  Again, it's not the end of the world, but when it's your favorite dessert, it's a bit disappointing.  Also as Sandals Select members, when we arrive at the resort, we usually have "welcome home" treats in our room, etc.  We had none of this.  Keep in mind that we're tough critics but this is because we've never experienced any of these things at the other Sandals resorts that we've been to.  We had an oceanfront concierge room with a balcony, but it was barely a balcony.  It probably sounds like I'm being nit picky, but for it being one of their more expensive resorts, I don't think we should have experienced any of these issues.

The resort is beautiful.  The water is a gorgeous color blue!  (We didn't get to go in it because the water was freezing when we were there.)  Definitely schedule a photo shoot with one of their photogs for sunset.  The pics turn out gorgeous!  Also be sure to make reservations at the restaurants that require them as soon as you get there.  We did this as soon as we got there and were able to eat at the places that we wanted.  We spoke with other couples around the resort who weren't so lucky.  Get to the dock early for the boat over to the private island.  I think it hold about 40 people and if you are #41, you have to wait another hour to get the next boat over.  Luckily we had a clear view of the dock from our room so we could see the people lining up and knew when to go over.  One thing that DH really liked is that they served cans of Miller Lite there.  In our experience at the other resorts they always had drafts of the local beers at the bars and bottles of the local beers in the rooms.  He liked having what he was used to and also since you got cans, you could get a lot and not have to go back to the bar for a while.  (I was 5 months PG so I didn't have any experience with alcohol on this trip.)  The food at the restaurants was good.  Order your pizzas at the pizza place for lunch before you think you're starving because they do take 20 minutes to make.  Go to the Junkaroo Beach party on the private island at night.  It was fun!

Feel free to page me if you have any specific questions.

  • Thanks Natalee! By and chance, did you do a candle light dinner there?  We're debating whether to do one on our anniversary or go to the restaurant we went to last year (outside the resort) again.
